If I could get propane for that price, or if natural gas was available, I'm not sure I'd heat exclusively with pellets either. I don't mind the hauling of pellets, and the cleaning isn't so bad either. I save enough over heating with oil that its well worth it. But if heating with gas was within 10% of the cost of pellets, I'd probably use gas for the majority of the heat. I'd definitely still keep the woodstove though.

No natural gas in sight for me, and propane is only slightly cheaper than oil per BTU here, so I'll be burning pellets for a long time.

Not much option here. Fossil fuel is way excessive. I just hate having my money go to people who hate us. If it were not for the NIMBYs among us, this would be a non issue. Since it is not much I can do about the high cost of oil, I have to do what I can for myself. That leads me to to burning renewable fuel, wood. For me, it is wood pellets. Yes, it is more work than just signing a check, or adjusting the thermostat. I really don't mind keeping my stove clean and I really enjoy wood heat and the calming effect of the flame.

Same here, considering my price is $3.85 a gallon for propane it's all pellets all the time. If it were sub $2 I would use a mix.

Not even a Miller or Lincoln? I'm spoiled with a tig at work, So haven't miged in eon's! Used a buddies Lincoln 110 volt 15 years or so and it stitched chitmetal fine. Only 90 amps@20% duty so I couldn't lay any long beads. But short bursts were decent.

I priced a Lincoln @ home cheapo for $524(Its a 240 volt unit BTW). But the quote I got at the welder's was only $255.24, So I'll prolly just have it done by the weld shop. Called the guy who hit me and he's sending over a check. Hopefully will see it by the end of the week.

I have a 110 flux core welder and it does OK, but only for things that you don't want anyone to see. It looks like a goose with digestive issues walked over the project. I've never used a 110 mig, but I'd guess they might be better. The last time I used it was when the handle on my $30 yard sale special rototiller snapped.

My father in law is a welder and has a nice Miller unit. If I need anything big done, I take it to him.

If I need something done, I take it to the shop. Might get scolded if I tried sneaking this thing in?? :emb:

There's a industrial rental place in the next town over. I might see what they get for a mig for giggles.

Yes, it's VERY weird for me not to be out shopping for the best deal on pellets.

But I have to suffer through the winter w/ the propane.....spent a lot of $$ just fixing this place up to where it's decent and liveable, so the budget doesn't have a pellet stove in the near future. Gotta get a shed and maybe a new generator for this place before winter sets in......o_O

Why "maybe" get a generator. Do you remember the mess I got into last winter? No heat, no water, no power, there was an ice storm a couple days before Christmas. We sat in the dark. Had to move the Christmas gathering. Couldn't sleep because I didn't have power to run my bipap. You can't put a price on that misery.

Yes, I remember that well.....that's why the generator is on my mind. For this place I have now (approx. 1000 sq. ft), I'd probably get one of these:

Will throw some stuff out for all instead of seperate posts, moved out here with old landline phone, always works when power goes out, happens a lot.Quit working(when power went out) about a year ago.Took quite a few phone calls to find out that with the new power routing that that is the way it is and shall be.Dropped landline.Have tracfone connected to bluetooth box to answering machine,as a lot of the cell towers out here do not have generator backup, and tracfone (out here)uses everyones towers.Works fine. The trailer repair-you can get the unwelded metal sections from the trailer manufacturer unless it came from a small shop.As far as propane, was 1.58 out here, supplier told me and 3 neighbors to wait at least 3 weeks, will be cheaper,we waited, and cost us 1.89,with a bunch of excuses.I put in 185 gal to top off tank, and burned about 3 ton pellets last year, but want to be warmer this year(old age thing).

Looking into it. Mainly for the special paint the trailer is painted with. Calling the dealer where I bought it today. See if he has any info on both the pieces and the paint. Anyone hear of Road Armor? Its a bed liner type of coating used on some boat trailers. Supposed to be better than paint. I need a touch up kit.

I found the lights and grommets. They are made by Optronic's and seem to be carried by most auto part stores. Advanced has them. I'll only need to special order the grommet for the marker light.

I am still leaning towards doing it myself. I like a challenge and If I fail? I can only yell at myself! Plus I don't want my "baby" to sit in an unprotected lot over night. To much to loose IMHO!!

I might post a DIY thread on the repair for giggles.

Not finished by no means. Plan on a little more straightening and refinish. Also need new grommets and the side marker light. But I made it road worthy again!!!! So far I got about an hour into it and no welding required. Amazing what a hamer - dolly - C clamp - and elbow grease can do!! ;)
