Ok, you talk about the worm turning, seems to me that the pellet folks did the turning this year and last.

The worm never stops turning until it is dead.

Until pellets get back to reasonable and oil stays reasonable, I'll reserve my current stock of pellets for when I really need them and heat with oil. Now considering that I have just a few pellets in the bunker and some of you seem to think I should waste my fuel funds by purchasing what I don't need and what I haven't currently got storage space for you'd like to contribute to building me some more storage space.

Best you also remember I'm retired and on a fixed income. Which is where most if not all of you will also be someday.

It isn't likely I'll get too lazy to do the pellet or wood thing (if it was a reasonable option), however it could be possibile that I couldn't physically handle it at some point. Same could be said of even you younger folks.

Buying into just one option is not even close to ideal, heating with wood in any form isn't particularly all one might think it is. There are "issues" with using anything to heat with.

I wasn't speaking to any one person here..... I apologize if you think I was speaking directly to you STB.

Just sharing my thoughts as a lazy man.

And our house has bought into the wood/wood pellets. We are warmer and still heat our home for around $700 a year. LP may have been cheaper this year if we kept our home at 64°. But we like 70° + temps. In that respect? LP would cost us more.

So we'll continue to keep our home warm and work as a unit to do so.

Just got our first snow of the season. Was really exciting. I cant believe there hasnt been snow here until today. We almost got 2 inches. Tomorrow afternoon it will be gone, as it will be 55 and rainy. I ran out to plow it before it melts.

I was gonna start watching this since breaking bad was so good. Sounds like it is definitely something I should add to my queue.

I didn't mind staying hunkered down because it was so far below zero for a few days. Now we're up against a day of mixed temps and precipitation. 3-6 inches of crap then freezing rain, and turning back to snow tonight. I'll be driving the Mrs/ to work today.

I have to agree with bear here. Although I stocked up on pellets this year and will probably always be burning some pellets, the stockpile is a little smaller than usual and other than last weekend I have not burned overnight yet.

Yes, oil will spike again and pellets will be more attractive but regarding keeping the mills in business also means that the mills and the retailers need to price accordingly. They had no problem doubling the costs but here we are in February with a forecast of 50 degrees and last night HD is still charging 5.18 a bag for FSU and Chow when oil is selling at 1.49-1.59 per gallon. People are raving about 199/ton in other areas, why not here? Also, why are we not seeing 149/ton which is more likely where it should be?

Its not only up to the consumer to keep the mill in business. Its a 2 way street.

    well chit.
it looked for a while like it would stay above freezing tonight.
now they are calling for a low of 30.
freezing rain on top of the snow and a high in the 40s today.
i guess i'll just time it so i clear the snow right when it gets to 32 and hope for the best.

maybe i'll go out earlier so it's still freezing rain and maybe i won't get soaked as much.

    bleh.

A normal fifty minute round trip was 50 minutes each way. The back roads were untouched by plows. The state highways were plowed what seemed hours ago.

Here's a pic of what you could see out the windshield on the way to her place of work:

< that's the road right there!

;) Again we get 6-8 inches of snow most of it taking her to work. Now if it would just stay cold. We really don't need this getting freezing rain on top of it. That will be a mess. I'll need to clear the driveways this morning.

Turned cooler yesterday and we ran the little stove all day and through the night last night.

Raining this morning and looking like a bit of drying this afternoon and then more rain and cooler through the weekend.

This more moderate weather is certainly keeping the amount of shells burned waaaaaaay down.

Still have 21 barrels in the barn, plus a buttload in the basement too.

Looking like we are going to slide through this winter on the Cheap.

Cost us $109 for the total shells we bought this fall and this is going to carry us through til spring with ease and then get us well into next fall.

Filled the Quad up with pellets twice this season (2 bags) and ran it maybe 3-4 times when we had to be gone past when the Whits would need to be filled.

Mostly I go and dip out a can full of pellets from the Quad to use lighting the Whits

    Interesting Winter

Been a wet one for sure.
    December was a washout

Gonna head out later to see the Doc about my badly hurting back, and thinking I will use the warm weather as an advantage and shut the stove off and do a good deep cleaning when we return later.

Always fun to skunk up the sky with a good LBT maneuver :D

4 people "like" that u have the flu.. not me.. just keep it to yourself please. I had some sort of "crud" in November that everyone else was getting. Fever, sore throat, .... took 4 weeks to finally get over it.
Get lots if rest and plenty of fluids (including chicken soup. Iirc grandma Klampette's soup did wonders. )
