The thing with those updates jt is that they are likely creating more "issues" than they fix.

Nor Jetway(totally crap). I usually go Biostar fpr the $$ savers, But Gigabyte. and Asus are my fav's and usually in my stuff. Built many a Abit systems before they went Poof! Had decent luck with Foxconn and Tyan before they went server boards as their mainstay. Hoy, getting geeky makes one thirsty! Brew anyone??

Matx are available, But the ATX is what I would look for. Preferably without onboard video. I like using my own choice of GPU's.... But if all else fails, I would go with the Matx. It will do...

I really regret the AMD motherboard I bought in hopes that Bulldozer was going to work as advertised. What I did do at the time is get a good AMD Phenom II 965 Black Edition quad core processor that has lasted me and is still running well.

At least my laptop is Intel. Almost 6 years old and running a Core I7 2820 running at 2.3gh, I scored the laptop on a Dell scratch and dent plus more discounts special offer back in 2011.

I had not run the winblows rating in a long time, so I just ran it again.

With the original mechanical HDD, the rating was 6.2 with the HDD being the lowest and determining overall score. With SSD, it went up to 6.9 with the SSD scoring the highest possible rating of 7.9

Agreed, if you want top performance and reliability, Asus was tops in my book-although I havnt build anything in over 5 years. Also, Tyan was previously my #1 pick-they had some kick azz boards back in the day.

Same here Larry. I got up at 6:30 and it was wet. 7:00 am was sleet. By 7:30-8:00 it was and is steady snow. Gonna need to be carefull later cleaning up with the ice underneath. :headbang:

Hopefully it stayed soft and did not freeze underneath the snow.

Cant believe I was saying this, but we finally had a layer of snow (not the a of ice we had from the storm a few weeks ago). I would have preferred several inches of just snow to keep it that way. I hate when the snow base is solid. Will see what we end up with here after it gets really cold again starting Monday

Messy, not safe at all. I won't be stepping foot out the door until it is over, cleaned up, and sanded. Just a fact of winter. We went shopping yesterday. Wife has made a haddock chowder, and a big pot of chili with red beans and meat. We should be all set for a few days. :stirpot:

My old Intel scored 6.6 and the new AMD is scored at 7.3 for reference. My cheap HP i3 3.4 at work is scored about the same.

Here's the old system score. Video card was the downfall, But I don't game much.

    Old system.JPG

Surprised the new systems downfall is the SATA6 drive. It didn't score any higher than the old systems Sata3?? I expected at least a 6.9 score.

I can't wait to build my sons kit. I forget how much fun the hardware stuff was. Software crap, Not so much!! :loco:

What time should I be over?? ;) Sounds yummy. Nothing like some chowda and some chilly for these dreary days.

If I ever get away from this keyboard. I might have to have a go at a beefstew. And some home made bread!! :beerbbq:

Heading back to TSC for some more pellets. I burned 10 bags of their brand and it didn't seem too bad. Low ash but didn't burn very hot, I'll see what they have there today.
This is what I got last time. Anyone every try these? 20160116_101456.jpg

Yeah, I always hated the software side of a build. The hardware was definitely the fun part-making anything go faster is always fun

Great day for chowder and chili . I should have stopped at the Tides fish market in Rochester last night-she makes some awesome Haddock, Seafood, Clam and sometimes salmon chowders. Too bad I did not think of it

But, I am cleaning out the older meats in the freezer and making a gravy today. :stirpot:
Looks like sausage and some steak to go in it

I will make as much as I can and freeze most of it-maybe a lasagna next weekend

Tried running the barcode to see what they are, but there ia a number missing at the end.

Edit-if the missing number is a 6 then they are MWP-

Started at 36* with a fine mist, the the temp's went to 23* with sleet, then sleet and snow and now just freezing rain about 1/8 inch on the vehicles. It should be over now.

The wife has traveled to see our family for the weekend, she really needed to get away. I'm the designated sitter for her mother this time. She's 89 and doesn't travel well. Came to live with us after my father in law passed. I grew up with elders living with the family, unless there was a need for a nursing home. So when the wife asked me if she could live with us, and I had warned her of all the limitations that would interrupt our life and she said she understood....what's a loving husband to do? :hair: :headbang:

Sure honey, I'll build an addition on the house, help you with her medications, help cook, drive her to the Doctor's office visits and my favorite is staying home and not seeing the grand babies and our children. :loco:  What was I thinking?
