That must be one bad-azz RV Antenna WW ! :D

We would need an antenna 2x the size of the house to get any reception here - welcome to the Granite State. :picard:

I've been using the DLNA server on my router to serve my entire digital media collection, no need for the computer to be on. I've had troubles with other versions of Netgear's software, seems that their software release control system is lacking, there is another fly that can get into the ointment with the cable Modem/router set-up, the ISP controls the pushing of updates and only they have the firmware to be pushed. I'm just trying to get to a low power consumption mode and upgrade my internet service speed at the same time.

I hope it has really deep sleep modes, as Emera (formerly Bangor Hydro) used to have atrocious rates.

at some point, we will probably get a kindle for my wife.
she is actually very active in the groups keeping the library here operational since the town has decided to defund it.
when it gets to the point she can't easily get her reading material, well make the jump.

as will most other computer related things, i will learn it when i have a reason to.
i've gotten pretty good at some stuff since i started depending on the computer for more things over time.

I usually get 10 years out of a computer, this one I got the beginning of 2014. The base system is way more than I needed but I don't trust the hogzilla mind set of most of the software folks. The only issue is my need for a bit of media space which came into full focus when I wanted to do a full system upgrade and my backup drive was no longer large enough to backup everything. So I got a 5TB drive for a backup unit. Been working on my media collection and on 12/27 I had it all on a USB port powered 1TB Seagate slim drive and no longer needed my computer to stream the video collection. The collection still needs a bit of meta tag clean up. I'll get to where I want to be, just might need to pull a few teeth first.

i've had this acer 5 years now.
biggest problem is it's way undercooled.
i have a total of four 5volt usb fans doing the job it isn't capable of on it's own.
two 80mm stacked back to back on top exhausting, one up against the single onboard exhaust fan helping it, and a 120mm blowing in.
i use my data vac blower regularly to blow dust out.

then i have a fan running on the WD "elements" 1.5tb brick of an external.
and it's even on a little rack. i won't buy another one of those. it's at 100% health after several years, but it just isn't designed for staying cool.
the my book WD 4tb is vented and stays nice and cool on it's own.

this was a revelation to me. i didn't even listen to my music much before i got organized with this.
MusicBee - Music Manager and Player
i had tried some others, but couldn't decipher their UIs
    this i can use.
got my wife's stuff into playlists for her so she can stop listening to her old tapes and cds on the boom box.
we got her some really sweet speakers for her computer, but she wasn't using them.
she is very un computer. even though she still spends hours on there doing actual meaningful stuff.

No ASN here, but I have 32 channels of dreck. A month or two back QVC over the air showed up.

I've got a big old antenna on the roof of the garage with a 20 year old Radio Shack TV amplifier in the basement. Miraculously, it all still worked after the digital transition. Didn't need to get a new fangled digital antenna to pick up the same RF signals. :)

I get CBS, ABC, PBS and Fox twice, NBC once, a few kids channels, a couple of oddball old syndicated TV show sub channels (those are my favorites) and a handful of religious/televangelist channels. Before the digital transition, I used to be able to get channels from Milwaukee. They were fuzzy but watchable.

Couple the OTA stuff with all the chit on Dish Network and there is still hardly anything on worth watching.

The 20 channels of dreck is many times what one could get OTA here for decades. 3 plus one blurry one when I was going to the 'versity. I usually watch other than the network stuff when watching OTA, I'm more likely to be streaming something not on tv or even cable. The main reason for the internet service upgrade was for streaming. So far that part of things is working just fine. There is one other thing I want to try and it is a Silicon Dust product that allows TV/Cable channels to be accessed as coming from a DNLA server.

I have always had enough cooling learned that lesson a long long time ago.

I usually use either VLC or Amarok. On the Kindle it is Amazon Music or Goodplayer.

Here is a screen shot of Amarok.

i was having a bear of a time figuring out how to get stuff to play in order on vlc.
also on jaangle which i tried for a while.
i could do it dragging songs in one by one, but that's not something my wife would ever do.

i googled and googled and saw lots of people with the same problem, but i never found the answer.
i'm sure it's a simple thing, but i was just glad to find something i really like that i can use.

i've started using potplayer for video. the sound is definitely better. i did a back to back on a concert i have and it was plain as day.
i played fingerstyle acoustic guitar most of my life and i have a better trained ear than average.

snow is coming tuesday night and wednesday. 9 to 17 inches called for.
it's actually 17f here contrary to what my weather sticker shows for the "airport".

Select the tune in the order you wish them to be played by clicking on add to playlist, then go to the play list the tunes will be in the order you added them to the play list, tell vlc to play the first tune in the list. I use vlc to play videos and internet radio streams.

Right now fine, just wait a few hours and it will be snowing. Agenda for tomorrow afternoon is a nap so I won't see the snow.

Earl, how do you get internet? I bought my daughter a Kindle in 2014, finally got it running right after Christmas this year. Her and hubby blew through my entire month's allowance of data in 2 weeks, if this applies to you.
