The big Chevy is a great rig.
We have a 2013 Smart for Two for the daily "GO GETUM CHORES" with its 30 plus in town (and up and down the mountain to home) and near 60 on the highway.

We have always had a large 4x4 for the last many many years and usually a Suburban 4x4

We bought a GMC AWD Safari mini van a few years back and after my retirement decided that it was too $$$$ to operate daily, hence the transition to the Smart for Tw0

We also had an older K5 Blazer 4x4 but that thing is worthless for hauling more than two people as well.

    Great bad weather rig, butttttt.

So last year just before Christmas we found a 1995 2500 Suburban 4x4 that was in great shape.

It had been on Craigs list for a month or so and not sold, so I took down the guys phone number.

The price had started at $3800 then dropped little by little until the ad went away.

After we sold the K5 I called the guy about the Burb and he still had it.

    Got it for $2k

    Great rig.

The reason it did not sell was that fact that it had the 454 engine.

Big old rat motors like to eat, but for our purposes it was perfect.

It is a great giddyupgo in the snow rig as well as people hauler.

We use it to pull the small car hauler and go get shells too.

These things are a beast, but will handle the bad weather real well.

The Avalanche is pretty much the same size rig.

I looked at one before we got the Burb, but the $$$$$ were more than I wanted to spend.

The Burb had just got a fresh set of BFG'S all around, a new radiator and a bunch of other work.

The guy decided they needed a newer rig to pull their 30 foot house trailer.

Makes little sense to me, ahhh, new tires, new brakes, new radiator, and much more, then sell the thing for $2k

For you folks in the Salty world east of the divide, this truck has ZERO rust anywhere and the frame is still nicely coated with the protective spray over the original paint.
    200k miles and runs sweet.

    Can't beat a good 4x4
We use this thing as a beast of burden.

Drove up to Seattle last spring and brought home a lovely twin sink vanity cabinet for our bathroom.

Entire thing fit right inside the Burb, no sweat.

Most recently it hauled home the Whitfield ADV 2 T I scared up.

    Great rigs.

Was sad to see Ford discontinue their Excursion, as it was also a great rig.

My Army buddy and coworker passed away last pm. Melanoma took him. I hadn't seen him for a few years. He kept his illness quiet. So sad.
There were four of us Vets all working in the same unit at the VA. Now, I am the only one left. Downer.

Nice deal there and a great truck !!

The 2008 Avalanche has done her well. Prior she had 2 Suburbans as well then "downsized" to a Dodge Durango that was totaled in a winter storm-the truck went sideways and was T-boned; if she had anyone sitting on the passenger side, they would have been killed for sure. That was it for downsizing on her end-back to full size truck. Frankly, I didnt like driving the Durango either-it felt top heavy and seemed unstable cornering at highway speeds of even 50-55 mph-it did not give you the same safe feeling as a big Chevy. You would not get her in a Smart car-ever.

Sounds like he took great care of it, was probably glad to hear the Burb would be put to good use when sold Snowy.

That rig has more interior room than our 1st apartment. I like your vehicle choices Snowy.

The weather is whacky here on the mountain - 17 degrees, -cold-, and snowing at 1:30am coming home, but only 4-5 " of snow, starting to warm up quickly and change to sleet/freezing rain. I'm leaving the walk and driveway alone for now. I take crunchy snow, vs. glare ice.

The Ladies have stepped up and cleared the Laundry room well, looks like Thursday will be washer R&R day - just too busy w/ work & traveling to jump into tearing down a washer, sight-unseen, a few hours at a time.., those projects usually don't go well for me - I'll need the time to document where all the bits and pieces go.

Gotta dash like a Holiday Reindeer - stay warm and safe folks.

I am fighting the urge to go out and clean the driveway for this exact reason...

That is the hardest part...memory of "where the hell does this go?" Youtube and a laptop or a exploded view and a printer comes in very handy. Yes, I would definitely advise blocking out enough time to get it back together at one time if at all possible.

Currently I have to replace the charge port of my laptop which means tearing it down completely to remove the base of the laptop-the port plugs into and attaches to the underside of the M/B. :headbang:

At least the company I got the part from has a video to follow-its a common issue with this laptop

Got up from my nap on the couch last night and went to bed about 1:30 this morning - peeked out the window and there was some white chit out there. 3:15 am, when I got up, it was snowing and I swept about 3" off the back porch so the cat could go out. At 3:45, when I went out to shovel the driveway, it was starting to change over to sleet. When I left for work at 4:40 am, it was sleeting wicked pizzah! And, the town plow guy had filled in the end of my driveway for me :zip:.

Long slow commute to work. Finally made it about 5:50. Was glad I had told the guy that was going to open the building for me that I wasn't coming in until 6 instead of 5:30 (the original plan). He had just gotten there and he waited for me to cover my windshield, opened the door for me and left.

Amazing how much street noise there is when there is no one in the building. Yesterday I was constantly getting up to see who had driven into the parking lot - no one :emb:

Ok, all you folks with less than full sized computerized thing a ma bobs, how can you stand it, this bear hates the on screen key pads and is going to petition Uncle to outlaw them. Just got one of the Boss's Christmas presents registered. She is now reading the tutorial for it. I can do the computer hoop jumping but don't need the non ADA act compliant impediments. I'm going to get a Bluetooth keyboard for my Kindle Fire. Still haven't set up my new modem/router system. Got to load the photos to my media collection.

The engine arriving at my home workshop in july Atlas base and crank.jpg
this is what it looks like today. We have determined that the crankshaft has to be removed, so that's next. it is over 7 feet long! The engine is an Atlas Imperial diesel circa 1929. it belongs to the Zagray Farm Museum.

I took a LOT of pictures during the dismantling!

Congrats on finishing it up, it looks great! I like that counter top. We are hanging thermal drapes in the rooms downstairs. Hoping to keep a little more heat in and cold out. Pictures later. Maybe. Depends on how they look!
