Plenty of beer drank. These folks are accomplished. Said enough, I have.

(The kids have had Star Wars movies on. Watching the old ones they have not seen before they go watch the newest one. Have I been listening to Yoda too much?:emb:)

Where I live in Ohio, you can buy anything you want, on any day (Sunday included). I find the law here very forgiving.

In Pa, I have to go to a Distributor. When I was in Kansas last month, it was 3.2%. The county in Kentucky we own property, just now became a wet county (dry for forever), and most other locales you can't get liquor on Sunday (or sales for that matter).

I wish it was that easy ivanhoe, to just hookup a cheap USB -> WiFi dongle and have it work, but it's not.. Here's why:

Most 'consumer' grade-class UPS units do not have the circuitry built in to allow for remote management, that class of features comes at a high premium - those units start at 3-4x what you paid. They only come with a simple RS-232 comm. port, and a USB port. They are generally limited to connection within 10 feet / 3 meters of the UPS <-> Computer.

USB WiFi dongles rely on a computer with host OS to communicate via software Drivers: if you plugged one into the back of the UPS, it just wouldn't know what to do.

Devices called USB -Extenders- or -Servers- are available that allow you to extend the range of USB cable signal from a device to the computer, but there are practical limits on those as well. Prices range from 50 - 150 +, depending on how simple or involved the Extender or Server, and typically require a hard-wire cable between the devices. USB Servers capable of performing USB <- IP -> USB host translation cost real $$$.

    --

    * Best advice I can offer is to purchase an inexpensive 'Netbook' class computer off eBay / locally, install the (Win) version of the software on the unit, connect the UPS to the Netbook,

and enable remote access to the machine, via Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP), then you can remotely attach to the Netbook using the computer upstairs, and view the UPS info. on screen remotely.

re: WiFi router inside the computer, I can't say: If the router can currently see other devices, there isn't any reason it would not be able to see a Netbook downstairs, barring any signal and/or distance issues.

    USB:

If you needed to extend a physical USB connection, up to 50 feet / 15 meters, these cables are handy - have gone to 20 feet / 6 meters without any issues:

Here's an example of a good USB Server:

    Hope the info helps.

Around here you can buy beer, wine or booze at most any party store or corner gas station. A few years ago the next county to the west of me wouldn't sell beer on Sunday, but you could buy liquor. Seemed strange going to a golf course and doing shots in the clubhouse, but they couldn't sell you a beer.

I had to buy a Unicard when I was in Richardson, TX so I could be an honorary 'club member' and drink beer at that bar. The town the hotel was in was in a dry precinct. Had to go to the next town over on the other side of the central expressway to buy a case of beer. That's where I learned that the term 'party store' has a different meaning in Texas than Michigan.

My first state liquor store experience was in Massachusetts. I was surprised that Montana had them too. I've gotten the 'you ain't from around here, are ya boy' look more than once in my travels.

On another note, I joined the world of 'decent internet service' today. Our internet provider (wireless ISP) has been doing equipment upgrades. Since the weather has been cooperating they came out and swapped our equipment out today.

I went from around 1 meg down/256kb up to right around 10 meg down/5 Meg up. Yep. Things are a bit faster now.

You should be able to steam Netflix and such no problem with those speeds.

My wife and daughter have been 'load testing' the connection for the past hour or two. So far, so good.

I just got back from sitting through a middle school holiday concert. The middle school percussionists still think they are in a contest with large explosive devices.

Taking my chances, turned the stove up to 5/6 for a bit, the higher fan speed kicks on there, though I get ash pan fires above 4. Too bad, I need more heat:picard: (I'll turn it down in awhile) and keep an eye on it :binoculars:
