Hard wired is always best, but I would be more suspect of the wireless router, especially if its a year or more old.

My router is new and I get 30-50 Mbps I'm the room where the Roku is located. I think there is maybe something suspect with the Roku WiFi or they just don't agree with each other for some reason.

Running ethernet from the router can be a PITA. Did the Roku start acting up after the new router was installed?

Yeah, it actually worked better with an ancient net gear wirelss router that maxed out at 15Mbps.

So now I used a powerline adapter kit with the "sender" hooked up to the the wireless router with an Ethernet cable and plugged my Roku in to the "receiver" which is in a plug right nearby. It works better than ever.

You characters want to have fun with that network stuff you first have to figure out exactly how many different things you are cramming into the 2.4 GHz band. Complete to the radio channels used and the sub-channel separation setup by the device I have been tied into knots by RFI due to all of the devices that are trying to use that band. Even your friendly microwave oven can glitch things in that band. I understand that when a Roku is Ethernet connected the remote control channel even changes.

That reminds me of our old Panasonic Microwave oven - it was a nice (1300w) oven, but it just -killed- WiFi every time it was on, due to RFI / minimal shielding. Maddening..

With both daughters home for the Thanksgiving break, I'm just relaxing with Smoothies, hoping there's enough bandwidth available to post to the forum, and will worry about anything that requires actual bandwidth next week..

The Bandwidth Monsters are back!

Cleanfire I'm the bandwidth monster in this house right along with being the controller of the system network. I'm thinking about upgrading the system but anything above 30MBs requires I swap out my modem. If I go that way Ill get one that has an integrated dual band router and DNLA/NAS server software. Might as well get rid of a wall wart while I'm at it. Also looking at a 1TB USB powered hard drive. That should give me plenty of drive space for my media. Thumb drives just won't cut it anymore.
