I went to Richardson, TX for training classes quite a few times over the years and drank more than my share of Shiner Bock. A party store not far from me carries it from time to time.

Good stuff. I may have to check to see if they still carry it.

Dislike AWD and that is the reason I can't find a tranny for the Patriot - because most of them are for AWD, but the one I got I could also force into 4WD. No low gear, but only once would I have needed that. I kept having people tell me how AWD was just as good, but I could pass AWD vehicles all day long, and I'm not an aggressive driver (in snow/slick conditions anyway ). I feared being able to get a 4WD in my price range (very low since I've had a lot of other unexpected expenditures this fall), but the Explorer is a true 4WD with the low gear and everything. Look forward to seeing how it performs in the deep snow of non-plowed roades at 5AM. If it is as good as the 4-runners I've had in the past, I will be a happy camper.

And don't even get me started on ABS

Even if he were gone, if the same mods were still there, nothing would change......they all were in lock-step with him.

Yup, the exchanging spots of the bike and snowblower is always a sad day. :(

I have had front wheel drive, full time AWD (Subaru)and on demand AWD (Current Honda and previous Acura MDX)

Being in the service industry, I dont stay home for bad weather. Front wheel drive is useless, Subaru was outstanding. Acura sucked and I got rid of it fast, but the Ridgeline is just as good as the Subaru-better actually due to increased clearance. I do miss the full time AWD of Subaru though. 4x4 on a full size is the best for sure, but pricey and heavy on gas.

Tires will make all the difference in the world and is the last place to skimp. I paid 900.00 for 4 Michelin LTX M/S and will do it again when needed.

i got the uniroyal tiger paw nt touring in a 225 60r16 for our outback. $400 for the set.
they are very popular in this area and i see them on lots of passenger cars.

but we don't usually have to deal with unplowed roads, so these are good for us year round.
they are pretty meaty for an all season.
we only drive about 1000 miles a year too.
a little more this year as we had several shopping expeditions downstate.

Aside from extra clearance of a true 4x4, I found that a manual transmission on the Subaru negated the need of low gear for me,. The only time I ever got stuck on my hill of a driveway was when the snow was too deep for the front bumper and it plowed too much to push.

A ride home from Boston in a bad snowstorm in non plowed rte 95, the Suburban I was driving that night was put into 4wd high and it did not move from center. That thing was a tank.
