I've put the pellet appliances to bed for the year. Still burning firewood at night as needed. I even broke down and let the oil furnace run a couple mornings. Ive had enough hauling pellets for the year. Hard to burn oil, but it's easier to do that when I just need to take the chill off in the morning.

Spring early buy started at the local pellet house. Somersets are 214/ton, and I'm thinking of picking up 3 tons. They offer free inside storage through September, so I can pick them up a half ton or so at a time as I drive past. I have 72 bags of pro pellets left from last season. I torched around 4.5 tons this year. I figure I better have 6 tons on hand for next season.

On a brighter note, it might hit the high 70s next week, and the grass is almost ready to mow. After this winter, I'm looking forward to riding around on the mower for a while.

At that price, my entire stash would be Sets. I think you need to jump on all 6 tons NOW (if finances allow, of course). Having all 6 tons ready to go will feel mighty comforting come next Oct.-Nov.

    My 2 cents.

Spring? Cancelled from what I can see. We will get a few days of summer, lots of biting bugs, then frost again.

From what I can see, we have 2 seasons here. Winter and road construction, and neither are good for driving

$219/ton is the "normal" price for Somerset around here. Last years early buy price was $209 IIRC. It's a rare day that the 'sets show up at Menards for the $179/ton price that some folks are lucky enough to find.

The early buy prices at this dealer are usually $10 less than what their price will be in the fall. If history repeats itself, then the per ton price will be $5-10 more this year than last. Which is less of an increase than I was expecting after last season.

Trying to convince my wife that I need to buy for next winters heating season, when we haven't even seen a 75 degree day yet, is a bit difficult. Not to mention I really don't want to think about winter or heating for a while.

Took a ride on my new toy yesterday after work. Harley Road King. Wifey surprised me with it on Sunday, she and her brother did a great job of getting info from me about what I would want and they did a great job. When I get a picture of it into this computer I will post it. Its a 2000 Road King fuel injected, burgundy in color and it runs pretty nice. My 1500 Vulcan is faster, but this bike is smooooth and comfy. Was gonna take it to work this morning, but 36 deg. this morning has me rethinking that thought.
My 6039 has been put to sleep for the season and possibly forever if I find another insert that tickles my fancy this off season. :)

I think I'm done burning here. Highs in the 70's and lows in the 50's from here on out. I let the stove burn empty last night, and it's 71 in the house right now. Gonna go unplug it.

Bought the wifey a Town and Country yesterday, pretty nice ride. Gonna go buy a St. Croix SCF 050 this morning.

Lots of reasons to go through Fremont (RT 20, 6, 53, 19, Turnpike), but not many reasons to stop here.:)

My crazy dog just brought my Husband a Sandhill Crane egg. Seriously?!?! What are we supposed to do with it? I love those birds, they are always in the field behind my house and love to listen to them. I feel really bad but I don't know where he got it from so I can't put it back...

Is that the one on CL?

My Father called me yesterday and asked me about that model. He sold his CPM and is gonna buy a pellet furnace this year. He has been burning 3 years and has the bug now.. :) He wants more heat!!

Nope. There is a wood burner dealer in Toledo that was selling off the remains of his pellet stuff because he can't move it. He actually advertised it on CL a few months ago, and I just called him up in case he still had it. Sure enough, he did.

Did the test burn this afternoon. Once I figured out the controls, it went pretty smooth. I think I'm gonna like this furnace. It spits out lots of nice, toasty heat. I hope to use this as the work horse, but will still have the CPM for the shoulder seasons and the polar vortexes. Vorticies? I dunno. The SCF is a manual light, so I'll probably only use that when it's below 35 or so. The CPM is essentially automatic, so I'll use that for the inbetween days.

I stopped in Fremont once work at the power plant. Whoops. Energy center. :)

Congrats in the new furnace. My Fahrenheit is manual ignition also. It doesn't bother me. I don't shut mine off unless it's going to be above 40. It'll chug along on low all day long.

The AMP plant just off 20? I can see the steam from my house on really cold days.
