Officially overdue for 1 ton deep cleaning. Hoping for Friday if our new septic is done by then, old one died. chit happens. (pun intended). But I do not want to tackle the 1 ton cleaning without indoor plumbing for sooty hands and a shower, KWIM?

Any alternatives to the soot(lint)eater? I'd like to use a brush like we did on the woodstove pipe on my old house. (DH can use the sooteater but his time a rare commodity). Brushes should be easier for me than trying to balance on the roof with a drill and extension rods.

  Yes Dear, I will not (and have not) attempted it :) My clean out cap on the back of the stove is too close to the floor get the "flex" rods in there. I was hoping for something like a swiffer duster, only stiffer and 4" diameter?

It was 47 this morning. House was 66, and that was with a couple Windows cracked a bit. It's 68 inside now.

My goal each year is to not use any form of heat until November 1 or first snow, whichever comes first. The older I get the harder it is to keep that pact with myself. I usually consider myself a winner if I make it to October 15.
