Son did more work today. The electrician gave him the go ahead to put the sheetrock up in the kitchen. He also got the shower in. Drain is installed but the water isn't yet connected to the shower.
I've been waiting two years to install that shower.

That is funny. We originally bought the shower with the intentions of tearing out the tub and replacing it with the shower. #1 son was going to do it, but somehow never got around to it. Then after my fall and little recovery, son #2 proposed this house make over. So this shower went downstairs in the new set up. The costs of this project is about three times what we first came up with, but there are way more update and revisions. Downstairs ended up being a total gut.

Well in keeping with the tread topic, yesterday we went on a junk store store run ending at Bray's where I celebrated national Lobster day by partaking of a bowl of their lobster stew and since they didn't have any of their brews on tap (their fermenters are all busy working on libations for the upcoming Blue's festival) I had to suffer with a mug of Left Hand Brewing's milk stout nitro on tap http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/418/115076/ . When we got back my medicare card was in the mail. Today, I started the paper work for one of the two pensions I can draw on. Maybe tomorrow I'll start the remaining one.

One on the big expenses was the new heating, water treatment and distribution system. Next was having the whole place rewired. Then there was cost overruns because the materials first figured in were not to out liking. If this is to be the end of what we ever do, then I am doing it in a way that we will enjoy, not just adequate. We haven't gone all fancy on anything. What we did do is get quality items that should perform well and be easy to take care of. Improved lighting, Pot lights on dimmers. Lots of windows. Even a window in front of my desk. Every floor is tile for easy care. We will have area carpets that can be replaced easily. We have gas detectors, Co and smoke detectors. The smoke detectors are hard wired and have the new quality of heat and fire sensors. Cabinets are drawers on the bottoms so no bending over and digging in back. We have lift chairs, wide doors and lever handles. Motion detectors to light up when we move about at night.

Will, love that bunny pic. One of these days I will post pictures of all the wild turkeys we have around here. They hang around under the bird feeders and are practically domesticated. And man is it crazy when they fly up into the tall pines to roost for the night! Like big awkward knuckleheads. Anyway, here are this week's wild flowers found growing on the side of the road over the weekend. They are everywhere, and smell so strong!

I had granite in my last house. 9 years and no stains, scratches. As long as you clean it and seal it a few times a year, you're good to go.

That said, I went with a nice laminate in the new place.....most people think it's stone. Pic isn't accurate on the color....it's not so yellowish. Laminte countertop.jpg

So many pro's and con's to each application. I talked to a lot of friends. All the ones I spoke with said to go with the Laminate. I think most of them are scared off by the cost, but I don't want the maintenance. My wife, bless her, is a good cook, but not so good about mopping up after. I have to go behind her and clean the stuff up if I don't want surprises.
