Furnace install is about done except for finding a vendor for the propane. I have listened to the problems our members have encountered and will be sure to bring those concerns up when I sign on the doted line. No way do I want to pay those made up fees for non use. I have tried to buy my own tanks, but can't find a source in this area. I've checked CL etc. Many wed searches. Seems it can be done in other areas, but the dealers have this thing locked up here

Buying my tank was the best investment I've made. Dealers here don't care...

The propane providers at my previous home would not fill a tank they did not own and maintain. Liability...

That and they can charge more! Works if they are all playing the same game.

Will, I think they have 100 pound tanks, I can't find 100 gallon tanks on their web site. I did find a 420 pound tank that holds about 125 gallons on Amazon. $500 each. plus plus plus for the set up to be done right. I have to companies getting back to me to see what it is going to cost to get hooked up. I have so much tied up in this redo that I'm going to need to keep the cost down.
A side note, we are doing all the floors over in our area. Currently a mix of carpet and vinyl. Can't stand the carpet. It has been in an unused bedroom for years. The vinyl is in an area that is being resized. So my boys want to put in tiles. We have picked out some porcelain and some ceramic tiles. No decision yet, but it is narrowed down to those choices. We will put area carpets down that can be rolled up and either cleaned or tossed out for new ones. With pets and grandkids, I don't want issues with the floor. Shoes, muddy feet etc. aren't going to get in my way. Easy care all the way in this do over.

If you can buy your own tank? I would highly recommend it Larry.

I wish I would have bought my own tank. The last 2 years I have not paid their "no usage fee" or the Rental fee. I haven't used it and they keep saying they are going to pick it up.

Fast Forward to this past Monday. We get a flyer and LP is $1.29 a gallon. I hate to buy any, but the last time we bought LP 7 years ago it was $4.39 or $4.89 (or somewhere in between). . If we owned our tank? I would fill it. But a fill will last us a decade now and the no usage fees and rentals fees are not worth it. IMO.

My propane company says that they'll charge a fee if you don't buy a certain number of gallons, but I have yet to see a bill for that fee. It's been over a year since it was filled, and even the previous year fell well below their minimum.

Now...if propane is $1.29/gallon and pellets are $250/ton.........

Been contemplating this... The wife and I talked last night and we are going to look into buying a tank.

    I wouldn't mind being a part time burner for a year :)

It's a Co-op by my house. That's the problem with filling my current tank. The tank is Ferrell Gas' tank. So I would have to start paying those fees again if there was LP in it and they can't take it away this Summer.

I may call Ferrell and see if they will match or at least come close to that.

I can snap a pic of the ad so you can see if your LP company will match that competitive price.

Thanks Dex...we have Amerigas and they won't match anything (bunch of pr!cks)!!

Would buy a tank, but my yard is usually so wet that the yard would get trashed removing and installing a new tank.

I think we all know where I stand on the propane.....

My company it's "free" tank with minimum fills per year, which currently is only one for our 125 gallon tank (100 gallons max fill). I just filled it for $3.29 a gallon. Which is equivalent to $4.94 for oil
Luckily I only use it for hot water and cooking. Haven't used my furnace for years. Probably a mouse nest paradise by now.

Propane has been in the $1.75 range for the last year locally except when everyone really needed it in the 13/14 heating season when it spiked to 5+ a gallon.
We put in a new gas furnace last fall and lit it to see if it worked. hasn't been lit after that.
We use a corn furnace for the main heat and a pellet burner in the living room in the evenings and the really cold weather. So far the math is positive for corn/pellet burning also it is a more constant heat with corn than gas.
