Yesterday one of my air monitoring devices went off. Took a while to figure out which it was (the cats and I had been taking a nap, which didn't help). Finally located the offender, the CO detector down by the P61a.

Part of the reason I had difficulty locating the device. First, it sounded like it was on the main floor because it is actually mounted on the back side of the stairway. But the main reason was because it would beep twice, then shut up for 30 seconds. It obviously wasn't a "get out" alarm, so I figured it needed new batteries (although I could have sworn I put in new last fall - and the batteries looked newer). I switched out the batteries and got the same reaction from it.

Fortunately, the directions were on the back of the device. Reading thru, it said the beep pattern was an EOL alarm. It has a 10 year life span starting from the day batteries are installed. I did get that thing shortly after I had the P61a installed, which was January 2014, so yeah, guess it is time to replace. Managed to find the same model on Amazon and it should be here Wednesday - I could have had it today or Monday, but I opted for my normal delivery day. Being able to get the same model means the current installed base can be left in place and just slide the new unit into place - yay for small victories.

Had the same happen to our 2 in Dec. Had installed them both when we got the P43 10 years ago. And going by the date I wrote on them then, it was within 1 day of exactly 10 years.

New CO monitor came in yesterday. Installed the batteries and slid it onto the wall bracket from the previous monitor near the P61a. Good for another 10 years as long as I keep up with batteries. It's the little things that make me happy.

Ours are the lower model Kidde, no LCD display. Got one on the wall near the stove, the other at the top of the stairs.
Our smoke detectors are hard wired and are like industrial quality LOUD. Have only set them off a few times but you can literally hear them down the street.

Well what did you expect no matter what it is it runs afoul of everything. the first rule of INERT A THING effects everything (normally nothing good comes about)

You need to watch Mr. Casler a bit.

That has been in the news for a while (that they were in trouble). I'm not worried about pellet mfgs that ship overseas - it's not our domestic home burning type of pellet. Interesting that they lay a lot of the blame on pollution. Sure, the article states that they have paid 10's of thousands of $$ in fines - but that is nothing compared to their bottom line. The fact is they (and their investors) gambled on making a killing on the overseas market due to world events, and didn't have a plan for when things stabilized in the energy market (regardless of how world events are playing out).

Additionally they may have played fast and loose with their air quality estimates during the permitting process, then got caught, which was probably worse for them in the long run since retrofitting control devices has to cost way more than building in the protections in the first place. But in the end, if they had a semi-stable business model, investing in "upgrades" would be a business as usual type of expense and not cause catastrophic failure. (Mind you, 'm not speaking of small businesses)

    Been busy here...
Shoulder season is getting a bit of an early start......
High 60's F here at the ranch the past few days.
Little stove handling the job starting at 10 pm (Bed time)
    Off during the day.

Cooler weather and rain on the horizon though.......

Going to try and get out tomorrow to get a load of shells.....We have 20 barrels available and great weather for a few more days.....
I would like to fill everything up before the summer shut down....Or at least get close.......

April can be cool and wet....So we will likely be running some.

At 50F the little stove can gitterdone.....Below that....not so much
