We definitely made the right move with mini splits. After running the AC for pretty much a month straight, we got our electric bill, and it was much cheaper than when we ran a window AC. We just ordered a hybrid hot water heater that works the same way the splits do, with a heat pump, so no heating elements. A little pricey up front compared to a regular electric tank, but super-efficient, with a ten-year warranty, and rebates. A couple weeks out before instillation, but when it's done, we will be oil free.

We have had ours for a few months now. I was skeptical, But it does save a good bit of jingle compared to the electric element heater! More beer money!! :D

Just put the window a/c in yesterday. Couldn't take the heat anymore(my beer got warm unless I full on guzzled it). Can't wait to see our next electric bill! Less beer money!! :(

:headbang: - the only decent thing about that is later this week it is supposed to cool off a bit. Hope you can get it fixed before it is burning season!

...and the more domestic extruders (Canada included), the less there is avaible here and of course the price will go up as well. In fact it is already. I'll keep roasting my free corn and be happy. It's dirtier than pellets but it's free. Hard to beat free and I'm inherently cheap anyway.

Think I caught up on all the birthdays. Sheesh a lot of bored parents around the holidays I guess...

Thanks for all the birthday wishes! Feels like they get closer together each passing year.

Ouch o_O. I came home a few weeks ago to just the fan running on mine on a 95⁰ day. Almost lost my mind but narrowed it down to the run capacitor and got it up and running that evening.

Hopefully yours isn't the worst case scenario

The home I bought in NC 3 1/2 years ago had the original 20 year old Trane HVAC sytem, and although it seemed to work fine, I'm sure the efficiency wasn't great. That summer, the heat was prolonged, so I ordered a 5-2-1 kit for it off 'Zon. Made a LOT of difference, and I had some peace of mind that the compressor would last a few years longer. It did, and finally saved enough :makeitrain"to have the whole thing replaced last summer. But anyone with an older system....the 5-2-1 kits are inexpensive, and make the compressor start-up so much easier. And I even installed it myself.

So nice to finally open up the windows here in SE NH last night after almost 2 weeks of using the ACs with it being around 90 & muggy every day.
