First sn*w blow of the driveway without an ice base in over a month.

One thing the ice gave me was a smoother more even surface than my heaving and beat up asphalt

WOW, just WOW, what a price. I looked on CL & FBM the other day to see if I could tell which deal you were going for, but the only ones I saw were for stoves in good shape going for over $2k.

Three o'clock this morning. Oil burner cycling on and off. No heat. Got up, hit the reset button, and it tried to kick over, but the pump just made a noise like marbles in a blender. I'm no expert, but I think it's broken! We won't have hot water today, but the stove will keep the house warm. Sunday is not the day to bring the oil guy out ($$$$), so we'll tough it out till tomorrow.

It was posted up a few weeks ago B (2/14) - and the seller kindly took the ad down after we spoke / had made arrangements for pickup.

When we got the Francesca back in December '14 it was also the same type of interaction & sale: the sellers wanted to make sure the stove was going to a home where it would be used, and taken care of. ... It's not too often we receive a 'gift' like this: so we will be taking good care of the stove.

Looks like the spare steel burn pot from the older Francesca will work in the RV80 - the dimensions match up: but the igniter port sits higher vs. the cast pot: so will be a manual light for testing.

The Exhaust sensor gasket I ordered from Stove & Grill Parts For Less should be here by mid-week. ... The spare UPS batteries are EOL, so new batteries are on order for this week, they may take longer to arrive.

The ( circa 2007 ) Englander 25-PDVC is still sitting in the Porch room, I have to go through and remove any good parts / get it ready to move it out.

    * If any FHC members are running a 25-PDVC and need spare / replacement parts: not looking for $$$, just covering of actual shipping cost. PM me if interested.

Ouch BHags. That noise may be the Oil Burner Motor Coupler: it connects the motor <-> to the oil pump, it's a pretty distinct sound. The coupler is designed to 'save the motor' in case of an impeller or oil pump issue. * Not trying to 'diagnose' here, just thought the info would be helpful to you. ... Best not to try and reset/restart, until a tech. can determine (why) the coupler failed.

You know the gremlins are just waiting for weekends and holidays etc to knock on your door. Hate it when that stuff happens. Good thing is that you are not out in the cold. I can think of worse things. I hate it when the power goes out, esp. when it is for days. I agree with you on waiting until a weekday, but I feel you will still get an emergency call fee unless it is scheduled for an opening.

I believe you're right. Sadly the reason I know is that piece was just replaced about 2 years ago. The burner is 22 years old. We are getting mini splits installed hopefully next weekend. I'm wondering if cutting out the burner all together and getting an electric water heater is the way to go. The burner is also a tankless hot water system.

I've seen vids online / know a few folks locally that have done exactly that - the electric water heater is either the "last" device in-line prior to hot water delivery, fed by the tankless hot water system ( the electric water heater is shut-off, when tankless is operating normally),

or is (isolated) completely from the boiler loop: with a separate cold water feed, and is connected to a 3-way valve on hot output ( [ tankless ] or/ [ electric ] -> output to hot water delivery line ).

In the first scenario, the electric water heater is essentially another "buffer tank" when the tankless is working normally. In the second scenario, it's "either / or". If considering removing the oil burner from the setup, the second install may be preferred: as you will be (isolating) the burner plumbing from domestic hot water output, that will give you time to decommission the burner and plumbing, after the mini-split install.

Whatever. I think you are living in a fantasy world with your original comment but I have no dog in the game. Just stating what is legal far as weight regs. Nothing more. Simply put, they are grossly overweight. Bottom line. In this state under the current DOT regs, both the shipper and the consignee as well as the driver share equal responsibility for the overweight fine... Not sure what your state mandates and don't really care actually. That is your baby, not mine.

So, a quick visit to our local libation spot, a few words with friends, and the burner is fixed...for now. We are still going with the electric hot water heater, mini splits, and stove. Cutting oil out completely. Hopefully, this will be all done within the next week, but as we all know, sh!t happens. Thanks for the input. I'll let you all know how it goes.

We haven't had natural gas since 1993, next was propane and we replaced that with an electric in 98'. Here, no natural gas or propane, and we get by fine.

It is/was my only option because this house was (ALL) Electric when built. I'm fine with the Electric water heater and in 55 years have only had 2 installed. It is time to upgrade but it's just the Wife and I and we don't use much hot water so the bill is reasonable.
