I would have felt the exact same if I still lived up there. I see someone who needs to move south. Let Earl764 deal with all of the snow.

I'm in an area where I usually only receive a couple real storms, and the majority of it we ignore.

We have a flat driveway, and two AWD/4WD vehicles, and receive some good sun to assist with melt.

If I lived further north it might dampen my spirits do deal with it as often as I see Bogie mention it.

Most of the TV station weather depts have now been adding after the forecast of possible 12-18" "of course the storm hasn't actually formed yet so we don't know what track it'll take".

Figured I err on the side of caution and just go do the food shopping this morning. Even at 8am the Market Basket & WalMart in Epping hardly any people were shopping. Guess they all are waiting for tomorrow's weather update on the storm.

My take on the "Oh my God SNOW!" theme weather forecasters take now (here in the MA-NH- SE ME area) is it's all due to they all blew the forecast on what turned into the Blizzard of '78. Nobody expected 24-36+" of snow. Seems like ever since all the storm forecasts go overboard with the 'we're gonna get clobbered' but do quick CYA at the end with 'But might go out to sea' . I'd appreciate a more calm " could be some snow, might not be, we won't know till Fri" but that doesn't keep the ratings up.

It's only snow. It is winter time last time I checked. Winter = snow, Summer = bugs and sweat.

It's real cold here, got down to minus 1 last night and it's windy. Cranked up the 6039 into over temp shutdown territory as in HR 8. So far so good. Humidifier is eating water big time. Good with that as well.

Went and bought 6 skids of Michigan Hardwood Pellets at TSC yesterday, same price as previous, 230 a ton. I need to pick them up. debating on hooking up the Goose Neck trailer and getting them in one shot or making a couple trips with the truck. All depends on my motivation. I can haul 10 skids of pellets in one shot and still be at my legal GCCW.

Very apprehensive about any price increase next fall so I might buy even more. I can store 100 skids in the barn, no issue.

Last year I inquired about buying a full flat bed load, delivered but the price per skid was only around 10 bucks less than the TSC price so I didn't. I've considered it but never acted on it.

Looks to me like anyone east of western PA is gonna get hammered. None here, just cold.

Don't mind the cold other than getting my diesels started. Diesels don't like the cold very much. My standby genny has a built in thermostatically controlled block heater so it's never an issue. Tractors are kept in the barn with no electricity. They all have block heaters but no juice so no heat. They all have hot batteries and glo plugs so they all start. They protest a bit but they go anyway. I usually start them and run them up to fast idle and let them idle for 15 minutes or so before moving them. Enough time for a cup of hot cocoa.

In a couple months this will all be a distant memory anyway.

That was one hel l of a storm. Really havnt seen much like it since.

I was 15 at the time and the week before that storm school was cancelled the night before a predicted storm that fizzled out to nothing-egg on their faces for that call so after that they were very gun shy.

On this storm they waited so long to cancel, it was white out conditions and not letting up-still hadnt made the call (had to listen to the radio back then to hear your school on the list). Never heard my mom say these words before or ever after-"you kids are NOT going to school in this"

Dad was in construction, and they worked thru anything. He let his crew go by 10am and had to drive home in the blizzard. he made it as close as 2 houses away and the car would not move another inch. Side road and we were not dug out for days. City had to get a front end loader in as the plows were unable to move the amounts we had.

I never have to depend on the road crews out here. I own the equipment (tractors, plows and blowers) capable of removing any amount, drifts or not and I do the road in front of the farm all the way to the pavement which is just under a mile. I won't touch it under 5 inches, just no point. We've had 10 foot drifts out here in the past. No issue.

I was 24. Was living in a ground floor apartment (in-laws lived in house upstairs) in Milford. Normal routine was to open the door, take our 1-1/2 yr old daughter upstairs to Nana's while wife & I went to work (we both worked at the same place). Opened the door to find 28" of snow holding the storm door shut. Closed door, said to wife, "don't think we're going in today".

But I'll still run the genny and snowblower a bit tomorrow. If I don't I'll need 'em both for sure, if I do maybe the storm takes a hard right off Long Island.

Mine were 1982, 1997, and 2003. 2003 was the worst, I have vivid memories of all 3.The 5 most extreme snowstorms to hit Colorado | OutThere Colorado To think my Grandparents went though every single one of them til the last 2 blows my mind, there were no plows on the farm.

This road is actually 2 cars wide...
when they finally broke through the other lane,
you could stand on top, and be at the same level as the top of the wires..

I was plowing that storm. I was doing an Oldsmobile dealership and it got so bad I just couldn't move it. Called my boss and he told me to go home. I had a 1967 Olds Delmont 88. I actually made it all the way to my driveway. About 15 miles. A guy was clearing the road with a front loader and he helped me get into my driveway. I was called in to man our fire station and the same guy with the loader came and picked me up. Cool storm.

Only the part about the manual is related to your comment. I should have separated the part about the manual from the rest of that paragraph since they weren't related. You didn't get to see the comment that sparked that first sentence.

Well, while I wait to see if we get our 0" - 2", here's the latest I've seen for my friends farther north. Have fun.

I'm right on the 8-12" and 12-18" line in south jersey. Already planning on leaving work early today to get a few pre storm things done around the house. Then back in to work to plow around 2-3am  for who knows how long.

Supposedly we get our turn in the barrel next week as well here in SE Michigan. 4-6 every day, Monday through Wednesday. It is January after all. I don't really care as this year I'm not doing the road and I'm only plowing out our drive and the rental drives. After that everyone is up to their own devices. Last couple years I've opened the road to the pavement and plowed out everyone's drives and never even got a thank you. This year will be different. In fact, I haven't even mounted the snow plow on the tractor and not going to.

Diesel, even off road isn't cheap so pizz on everyone. Now, if they get stuck on the road, I'm all about pulling them out for a fee. My 'goodwill' has left. Gonna be 25 bucks up front or no pull. My only 'responsibility' is my rental drives and mine. Everyone else can take a flying ****. Besides, I'm retired and don't have to go anywhere important.

With my big blower and 10 foot power angle county plow, I can handle anything including 10 foot drifts if neceasary but this year, ain't happening. Gonna sit back and observe the spectacle.

Problem is, when the snow gets south of the Mason-Dixon line, people don't have a clue how to drive on it and they don't have the plows and salt shakers to deal with it anyway. Been in Atlanta during a ice-snow storm. I found a motel and stayed there until the rolling junkyard was dealt with. You want to talk about demo derby, there it was, in spades.

Anymore, I don't even venture out on the roads when it's bad out. I stay home and toast me feet in front of the bio mass stove and listen to the scanner. Retirement has some very distinct advantages.
