So will Fujitsu Hyperion models - mine will work to 5*F. There are some ultra expensive XLTH (extra low temp heat) models that will go as low as -15*F, so they say anyway. I'm sure Mitsubishi has a comparable model.

Most of August, I ran the mini-split in dehumidify mode and it worked well.

I've always stuffed them in my vehicle. I don't pay delivery fees - which can be as high as $85 from a BBS 30 miles away. Local TSC and Aubuchon's don''t deliver. Only local store that does deliver is Agway that sells NEWPS. Only once per year can you get free delivery and that is for 3 tons or more. Any way you slice it, they charge at least $300/ton for the NEWPS and that is way too much (not bad pellets, just bad price) - especially since the factory is ~20 miles from my house and Agway is 2 miles.

I also don't have to pay for a gym membership since I handle each bag at least 2 times before the final carry/lift to feed the stove. That turns to four times if the original unload is into the garage since I will eventually re-stack in the basement to warm up before being thrown into the stoves. I don't worry about fines, but then again, I don't just throw the bags 10 feet either.

This is one reason we are considering Geothermal. By using ground water there is no low temp cut off or efficiency drop as the temp goes down to single or negative temps. But the units are way more expensive and costly to install.

I think the proper term is actually "ground thermal" or "ground source", and is what you are thinking. Neighbor put it in when he built his house. A whole lot of digging! And a whole lot of plastic pipe. But he played all the cards, he got federal money, he got state money, he used his equipment and did all the work himself, so on paper he paid himself, so it was almost free for him. On top of that, he supposedly also got money from California, where he came from, because of some strange thing that state was doing with grant money! He has a small wood stove when the power goes out,in case he does not want to run a generator.

We purchased enough property where we might not need the so called ground loop(all that plastic pipe). Plus we have a well in the basement as this house was built back when there was no plumbing per say. It had a hand operated pump in the cellar where water was drawn from. Plus there is a another well in the field and a shallow well behind the house. We use the shallow well for our domestics water.

I'll know more in the spring. But from what I'm told we will draw water from that cellar well and only need to pump the exchange water to another well(which we already have in the field).

Yep preexisting wells could make it very economical to install.

I've gotten the impression you are a female and if not, don't consider that an insult, but if you are, I sure as heck would not want to get on your wrong side....lol

Reminds me of my wife, a stout German gal whose tolerance for BS is about nil. Learned that real quick when we got married. Tried to feed her a bs line and got instantly rebuffed.

The guys and gals at the local TSC where I get mine, love me. Easy for them to side load my Goose Neck trailer and one strap over the top of each pallet (I load them side by side) and I'm good to go and back here at the 'ranch' I unload them the same way and I leave them in the plastic overcovers until I need them. Found a good use for the overcovers too. They make dandy covers for my mesh sacks of potatoes in the root cellar.

It was them that asked me if I wanted to deliver pellets and after about 30 seconds of thought, I said no.

With my luck, deliveries would be in impossible places to get into (I'm around 45 feet long with the trailer and the truck) and the 'customer would expect me to help offload them from the skids as well. Not something I'm at all interested in. Bad enough I have to handle mine dumping each sack into a 30 gallon garbage can and mixing in off grade seed corn all the time. Least my wife helps me with that chore, which comes about every 2 weeks mostly. Sometimes sooner, depending on how cold it gets. So far, other than loosing our power for a day, been pretty mild. Right now, it's 45 and raining out. I prefer rain over the alternative but I know it's only a matter of time before the rain turns solid.

Exactly how mu buddy on the other side of the river is set up with his geo thermal (water furnace) setup. One well to draw from and the other to dump in. His issue is, our ground water is a steady 52 degrees and when it real bitter out the water furnace dial in it's resistance heat to supplement the thermal exchange and...

I don't particularly like the heat the geo thermal unit puts out. The house is warm, but it isn't if that makes any sense. You cannot feel it directly and I myself like the feel of direct heat.

I believe his total utility bill is around 90 bucks a month, year around (with ac too). I'm sure in these inflationary times, that will increase as our electricity supplier (DTE) uses a mix of NG and coal to fire their boilers and I'm pretty sure their fuel costs have gone up.

Heck, everything is going up except my Social Security stipend. I read we are getting a 5.25% COLA increase? But Medicare is also going up so if I get anything, won't be much, if anything.

Just thankful I farm and do fabrication work. Keeps me solvent and keeps me outta the house too.

Yes, your impression is correct, I am of the female persuasion. When I was married, my ex split wood with his buddy (rented a splitter) and I stacked it in a lean-to up to the rafters (at least 7', maybe 8' high). It went into a lean-to about 80' from the house. I also kept the wood racks on the deck and in the house full and did most of the fire starting/tending.

When I moved into this house and put in pellet stoves, moving pellets was nothing.

Happy belated Birthday wildwest - of all the days for me to be low on time and not check the BD board.

It's been strange, 3 times this week the alarm has awaken me instead of my internal clock, so I don't have a lot of time to mess around on the forums.

I have younger brother/sister cousins, both married, the two couples dug up and installed geothermal in eachothers houses and they're pleased with them. I guess the key factor is they did all the labor themselves....
