Officially heating both shacks. Oil heat set to 55 at the shack and pellet beast ripping at the lake house!

So my son is looking for another (used) pellet burner. I talked him into a Harman due to the fact that I own one and know it well, I like the mechanical design, and we have a dealer and repair shop right down the street that has a good stock of parts, new and used.
We looked at a couple of used stoves today. A P-43, P-61, Accentra II, XXV, and an Advance. Out of all of them he liked the P-43 and the Advance. I know the mechanics are similar...at least the feed system...but what say y'all?

Looking at the manual for the Avance, it will take a bit more cleaning as the interior panels need to be removed as well as the baffle plates over the heat exchange. I had to do that with my old Hastings and that baffle plate was a PITA and sometimes not the most cooperative when I tried to put it back in place. The Advance looks to have a 60lb capacity for pellets, which is more than the P43. However, you can get an extension for the P43 to bring it up to 80 lbs. It doesn't look as if an extension could be placed on the Advance. Since the ash pans are different shapes, it is tough to tell. But my thought is they are at least the same size, or it may be bigger in the Advance.

I also noticed when I brought up the owner's manual, that the Advance has a warning that it has been discontinued (that warning is not on the install manual). Although most of the basic parts look like they should be similar to other Haman's, things like glass, and the combustion intake cover may be difficult to replace if needed. But then again, it's not like those fail very often, so that wouldn't concern me overly much.

Hu, if you can get burning corn, you can also burn a 50/50 mixture (probably burning corn is too expensive in these parts, but still nice to have options).

The Advance is a nice looking stove and so it would come down to whether the extra aesthetics off-sets the cleaning, or if you need (or would like the option to) load another 20 lbs. of pellets in the hopper.

Also want to add that both stoves have all original parts except flame guides. I doubled up the higher probability parts and single on the lesser.

Hopefully I wont need these but now's the time to buy folks-who knows what will be available in 2 months. The XXV acts flakey now and then which was why I wanted the board on hand. Also, the XXV ignitor may be weak-it didnt want to light on its first use of the season last weekend but after some coaxing and a manual light its seems ok-for now.

Most items in stock at great pricing and no charge 2-3 day shipping if order over $35 from pellethead.com (earth sense energy systems). Stocks OEM and aftermarket. Lots of good videos on parts replacement as well.

edit-the OEM exhaust fan I bought was purchased on Amazon from earth sense (same company and shipped from same location as the parts ordered from the website) for $78 vs $99 on their own website. :loco:

I'm sure I could have called and got the price match, but went the easy route and just purchased on Zon.

Thanks for the reply. The guy who had the Advance told him that because they were discontinued some parts may be hard to get. He likes the look but in the end he wants a good heater that can run without daily maintenance.

And the move begins. Finally won't be paying rent!! Woot!! :D

We officially start moving today. Moving all the non used items first gradually until Tuesday. U-haul reserved for Wednesday and Thursday(days my son doesn't have to work). To move the big items. Then we have a mover coming Friday for the items we probably can't handle. Both pellet stoves, Fish tank/stand and the basement freezer.

Trying to have the weekend to set up stuff at the new house, But Have until November 8th to have everything out of the lake house.

We had the cable company install the TV/Internet yesterday. So thats all set and ready. Tested the oil heat to see how long it would take to raise temp from 55 to 70 and how the house would feel at that temp. Glad we tore down the exterior walls and insulated. Temps rose quickly and furnace didn't run long. House felt pretty good. But nothing like pallet heat!! So the beast will still be used once we figure out where its going to go. The old quad will be used on the day porch/catio until we can find a new stove to heat that area. Maybe another enviro or possibly a (choke) Hormone once we see how the 40K BTU quad handles the area.

Very surprised tonight, we had ZERO kids for trick or treat in our neighborhood. Figured after it being cancelled last year, vaccines and such, there would be a lot of kids looking forward to getting out. Now what will I do with that big bowl of candy

No trick or treaters tonight. Often that way. We are on a dead end road and it is very dark down in here. We have outside lights on the house, but not profitable enough for the kids to come. Haven't fired up the stove once this heating season. I had it cleaned late spring. I used to do it myself, but mobility is an issue now. Haven't run the furnace either. Just the minisplit running (heat pump) So far it is doing the job alone. I am surprised how it keeps the whole place comfortable. Last's month electric bill was the lowest it has been in a very long time. Still no frost here. That is very unusual. We have had lots of rain and wind. Streams and rivers are overflowing. Last June, all the talk was drought. No mention of that now. Been getting storm after storm coming in off the ocean.

Congratulations my friend! I'm sure you can't wait! My furnace (oil) burned one tank of oil in 3 years. I gutted and super insulated when I built my addition. Couldn't believe the difference in this 200 year old farmhouse. My little Accentra heats the whole thing.
