I'm just north of both of you in south central Ma. If both of you can slow it down, that would be great!

Just now saw on TV that the eye should pass over Block Island, then over SE RI into Conn as it moves NW. Conn, central & western mass look to get the most rain.

With the storm being pretty much a dud over here(so far), One good thing is the cable crews are out working on lines. We had a surge a few weeks back and had degraded service. I guess with the crews all geared up they finally had a crew come over and mess with the outside cable. We are now finally all green lights on the modem and no glitches(tiling) on the telly. Plus the voice is much clearer.

Pinged several servers and getting a full 100+ megs up and 10+ megs downloads. :dex:

Why they have these guys out working in this chitty weather where we had a good week plus of good weather is beyond me. But gotta say Thanks to the linemen and service crews for having to deal with the chitty weather.

Thursday morning my computer would not boot....

    ARRRRRRRGH

    Really bummed out.

After digging into the issue.....it turned out to be that the 2032 button battery on the board had died.

The machine had been off for quite a while.....Sorted through the CMOS and discovered that the boot order was goofy and the clock was way off..

Replaced the battery and reset the default settings....Poooooof....all better....
But I did use this as a learning thing.

Grabbed a 2 TB USB drive and copied all the stuff I hold near and dear.....

    2 TB drive....That's a buttload of space...

    $65 for the drive....Cheap insurance.....

Great thing to do.....gives a lot of peace-of-mind.

On a Mac, there's a built-in program called Time Machine. I bought a 1TB Seagate Backup drive about 5 years ago, and Time Machine constantly/automatically saves the contents of the entire hard drive onto it. I've had only 2 times where the system got weird and wouldn't start-up, but I simply download a recent saved file off the back-up drive and POOF, all better.

Yeah, 1 TB is even a lot of space.....here I am 5 years later, and that back-up drive is only 3/4 full. Whenever it does finally get full, the oldest copies of the HD just get dropped off the back end.

Yup backup, backup and backup again. Use Acronis on our Windows computers, does a weekly backup to one of our NAS boxes. Then I copy that to another NAS box and have an enternal drive that I put the documents & pictures on as well. Drives can fail, better to have multiple backups. Use Timeshift on my Arch Linux drive, doesn't support network drives so I backup to an external then copy that to the NAS boxes.

I basically copy documents, [ all passwords, pictures etc].. to 4 different flashdrives which we keep in 4 different locations.
i do have original disks for OS..still have to re-install all the 3rd party applications either way...

Woke up shortly after 2am this morning. Not a great day to wake up early since it is my off-Friday. I do have to log into work later today and put in a couple of hours, but with a virtual meeting at 10:30, I'm not logging in until about 9. Oh, and the water is shut off (line maintenance in town), so I can't take a shower to start my day off right anyway.

Not hungry. Did feed the cats and birds at their regular time (3:30).
