Yesterday went off without any issues.
Got to the plant about 11 am and loaded up within a few minutes.
Got back up to the ranch and went to work unloading the shells.
Had everything all wrapped up, equipment put away, horses fed and sitting down to dinner by 5 pm
This years nut crop was HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE and the manager bat the plant tells me we will likely be able to get shells until early summer.....

Then come October we do it all again......

The plan this spring summer is to run as much material through the "Munchy" as possible and have it STOVE READY
Be a bit nicer than having to run the Munchy when it is cold outside/wet.

Supposed to have bitterly cold low temperatures starting in about a week.

    About time and thank goodness.

I can send trained tree rats and your fuel source would be hurting big time.

Last summer was really expensive for PT if you could find it. My ramp cost more than the deck it is attached to.

Clue, cold lows no fun for us bears, I can't run fast enough to keep warm and the boss threatens to take my wool quilt.

We have friends who would love to move to the seacoast area of NH. They live in CT. They own their house. They have been looking for houses up here for over a year. They have made the 3 hour drive to see a newly listed house a few times and the two times they made what they thought was a good offer, they were outbid. They're hoping things change with the market up here but they realize it may not for a while.

That’s the norm here in Eastern Mass as well. My brother passed away unexpectedly in August. I have been working on his house to get it ready for the market (new kitchen, hardwood, etc). Hardly a day went by that someone didn’t stop and ask if/when it was going on the market. My realtor has sold about 20 homes since May. Every single one of the buyers waived the home inspection and all of the sales were for over the asking price. She tells me we can expect 10-20 offers when we hit the market next week. It will probably sell for about $100K more than it would have last year. Crazy times....

Yes. Amazing. Still how long can this last? Let us know how crazy the sale goes!

Market here was already red hot. Covid has turned up the heat even higher.

Sorry, been busy, kinda. We are the only part of the state, our little section of the rockies, that is very low on snow pack. The rest of the state is way above average.Local ski slopes not happy.Farmers almanac wrong, again. But cold, with a scattering of warm days.Playing snow blower experiments,on my wood deck, will see how it works. Did get to test genny, will write it up.

We have those little squirrels here too....
Western Oregon is one of the highest producing areas for Hazelnuts.

New orchards are being planted in huge quantities .
Recently a solution to the "Blight" that had been a plague for many years was found.

A buttload of new orchards are coming online now and the yields are huge.
Normally the plants will wrap up processing by late Jan/Feb ...This year they are talking July.....

Just barely enough time to service the plant and be ready to haul butt on the next season.

The materials we are getting now are extremely clean and we see minimal crap in the shells....(Sticks, dirt...yada yada yada)

    Sticks will jam Munchy....
Not a big issue.....just loosen the anvil and back off the adjustment, then run the thing to clear the offending junk. (Adjustment has an adjustable positive stop to allow quick reset)

We stick an empty tub under the machine to catch the material....then pull out the junk... reset the anvil....go again.
    Takes a couple minutes.....
Better here than getting it into the auger on the stove.
