I've owned two trucks in my life. A 1989 Silverado, cost $14,000, lasted me 18 years, and my current 2006 Silverado, cost $22,000 still purring like a cat, but the New England winters have given the frame a lot of rust. That and the fact that I only washed it maybe five times!

The salt is a terrible thing to do to a rig

We have rigs here in Oregon that are over 30 years old that still have the paint on the frame....

Oregon has just recently started using salt on some roads, but we get so little nasty weather that thankfully they don't put much out there.

We never needed salt, then all of a sudden we do ??????

The younger generation has not been taught how to deal with ice and snow, and let 2" of slush fall on the roads it turns into mayhem.

The auto makers showing their new all wheel drive rigs sailing through snow like it was dust in the wind does not help either.

The pimping of all the electronic gizmo's that are supposedly gonna SAVIORBACON has the Kids totally convinced that they can drive just like it is summer...no worries.

Then when the coefficient of friction between the tires and the road goes away...and Ma gravity finds their butt...no clue what to do :picard:

A friend just got back from there, and said there were some flowers
starting to peek out.. and dandelions.

I still have plenty of snow in the yard..

Both stoves have been deep cleaned, including LBT. Doesn't mean they're in hibernation - still got a couple of months to go for that.

I'm surprised to see the lake isn't frozen.

The local car wash has a deal of unlimited washes for $19.99/month. I get the next package up with bottom wash for $24.99/month. I wash my truck every sunny day in the winter. So far so good.

Yes, unusually long warm spell here. Other part is the lake is RARELY calm like in that picture. He caught a 14" Brown and got a nice taste of spring, as most years we do not have a spring.

There's one in Waterville that does that. Every time I drive by there's at least 20 cars in line.

We rarely wash either, it's always been a treat, or indulgence the way I was raised. NE has so much more to deal with, I learned since joining here. Washing vehicles so the bottom does not rust out, having to split and stack wood for it to dry, ticks, and holy cow all the home maintenance from the humidity.

There is a car wash near me that charges $3 for a regular wash and $5 for under spray. Around here that's important!

Welp, it's a good day if you hate money.

With oil prices heading to zero, will pellets be $50 a ton next season?

No. HHO might be under $2.00 but pellets will be the same.

Got busy yesterday morning and started ripping on the Cat project.

Got the little tractor up here to the house and used it to tilt the cab over....

A lot of stuff has got to come off.

All the hydraulics are no longer needed.....

Once this stuff is out then I can go after the beast with the big Hot washer...

    Nasty mess
A lot of crap to get out of the thing....

    More pics

Some of the stuff is bolted through the outside of the tub and it's gonna take an extra pair of hands....
    Or some fancy maneuvering ????

The cat was powered by a Ford 391 industrial V8.

    Yesterday was another lovely day....
Got more work done on the cat.
I though I was gonna need more hands, but some sneaky use of vice grips and a bit of finesse got things loose.

After getting the Emergency electric hydraulic pump and the Double foot brake unit off and out of my way I was able to get to the rear transmission mount bolts.

Those ratchet box end wrenches are soooooo handy in tight spots......

Grabbed the little Red tractor and rigged up to lift the tranny out.

The wide stance on the cat made it just a tad too far to reach into the center of the cat...

HAD TO DO A MICKEY MOUSE....Added a long board into the bucket and clamped it down to get my chain a bit farther into the rig.

    Bingo.....just enough.

    Got the sucker out.

    Started MUCKING THE BEAST OUT.

Tons of oil soaked looooooong pine needles 6 inches deep in the belly pan.

Tossing handfuls of this crap in the tractor bucket and then CLANG

Went snooping to see wassssup with the CLANG
    BOOTY

A nice little short double box end wrench 1/2---9/16

Sweeeet...Used to belong to Alonzo...mine now
    Buried deep in the muck....

The next satep is to start yarding out the miles of hydraulic hoses.
Trying hard to not make a huge mess with all the oil....

Li'l Red is so darned handy..
Beats strained back and lottsa pain......

OH....AND THE UNIVERSAL WIRE AND HOSE TOOL (LOPPERS)
