Back in the pellet stove business....

Son in law text me the other day and says..."Got sumthin for ya"

He shows up with a Whitfield Quest insert.

    Complete too.
Both the side panels and the top panel too.

No particulars on IF IT WORKS OR NOT....

Cleaned the little beast up and plugged it in.

Punched the go button and the fans managed to groan up to speed (SLOWLY I MIGHT ADD)

I poked the auger start and the light blinked....but to joy with the auger turning...

Checked and the auger was stuck tighter than a bulls a$$ in fly time..

Removed the motor and it was DOA TOO.:(

Removed the auger and cleaned out a ton of crap and some sort of plastic item that likely stopped the thing up...

KIDS HIDING STUFF IN THE LITTLE CUBBYHOLE (Pellet hopper)

Lubed the top bearing and reinstalled the auger (FREE AS THE WIND NOW)

Scrounged through the parts boxes and found a good used motor...

Stuffed the motor in and gave it a go. JOY AT LAST....Within a few minutes pellets are dropping into the burn tray.

Vacuumed the unit and blew out the rear mechanical cabinet area.
Checked the door gasket as it closed way too easy.

You could toss a cow between the rope gasket and the mating surface of the fire box.

Rope looked fairly new.....wrong size... (Correct by the parts listing (1/2" ) but too small.
Installed 3/4" and all is good.

The parts listing has got to be a misprint....

The stove is perfect, but the 1/2" rope is nowhere near large enough.

Replaced the rope last night and used RTV to stick it...

Checked the fans for oil....Exhaust fan was missing the gasket, and was on with the oil ports DOWN :picard:

Fixed that and blew the fan out good...and added oil

Mosty everything else seemed fine...accept the draft valve cable....
Somebody had ripped it off the panel control and just left it loose :hair:

Shortened the cable and installed a little knob.

Once the draft is set ya really don't need to fool with it...

Rolled this bad boy outside on the slab and lit a fire in it.

Within a few minutes it was just churning away happily doing it's job....

Pressed the Auger button to shut off the fire...
Within a few minutes the little guy was shut down... test results....good to go

Ready for a new home now...

Son in Law knew exactly who could get it going quickly. A little extra $$ from a fairly easy project like that never hurts either.

    Does not hurt at all.

I am working on a snow cat project and needing some extra $$$

Finally had a fella answer a craig's list ad I have had running for quite a while.

Guy is only 35 miles away too..

He wants $1200 for the old machine he has....

This stove could not have come along at a better time...

My Son in law is a captain on the fire dept where they live (About 25 miles away)
The fella he got the stove from used to work at the fire house and was renovating a house he bought a while ago..

He had given us an Austroflam pellet insert a couple years ago...
It was in perfect shape...glad too...those suckers are spendy to work on $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Sure sad though....so many stoves just get neglected and receive little to no maintenance..then folks dump them.....

Went to town earlier to go shopping.

Came home to a smokey house and blinking LED Clocks.

A short power drop had happened and the safety latchout relay had opened up and the stove smoldered for a while,

Actually there was plenty of coals in the pot...hit the reset button and punch start and within a few seconds there was fire again.

RUNNING the kitchen exhaust fan and both pellet stoves to try and clear the air.

    ARRRRRRRRRRRRRGH

The only bad thing withe a direct vent system....
    I happens

Only got 5" of snow, but it was a wet sloppy mess. I chose to work from home today as the roads would be nasty and didn't want to deal with other drivers who are not as smart as I am when driving in the stuff ;). Worked for 6 hours (started at 5:15 am), then went out to shovel and snow blow. I had to shovel the approach, departure and around the mailbox as the salt was making the road plow berm so sloppy that the blower's chute kept clogging. Did not do the approach to the tent garage, so in all did about 3/5 of my normal area.

The ground is thawed and muddy, so just blowing the paths around the house was messy work. The roof dumped so I shoveled off the ramp to the back door as well as the front porch and steps (driveway portion had already dumped and was able to use the blower on it ). After about 1.4 hours I was done with the physical labor. Temps got up to 38* this afternoon so what didn't get taken care of has since compacted into about 2 or 3" that will turn to pure ice over night when it drops to single digits.

Logged back in and worked another 4 hours. Logged off and did some laundry, now dishwasher is running and I am goofing off :).

Nothing but rain here in Hampton. I would have preferred snow. I hate mud :picard:

Yep - normally put in 9-10 hour days - but also get every other Friday off.

I worked 12 hour shifts on a rotating basis so I got a three day weekend every other week. On Mon, Tues, off Wed, Thurs, on Fri, Sat, Sun, off Mon, Tues, on Wed, Thurs, off Fri, Sat, Sun. Good thing was I could take two days off and get a weeks vacation. What sucked was I had to cover night shifts occasionally so it was not uncommon to work 24 or even 36 hours straight. I survived on a Marines sleep schedule....whenever I could.

Well I thought this weekend I would actually have a weekend after 2 months of not having a weekend ..... But not gonna happen just finished making 3 items for a fix to install tomorrow as yep I know I am a Superintendent but the notice of a few hours did not allow me to get someone in to take care of it. Have to bash down some Big Pharma bullchit in defense of the Project managers of our project who were getting lambasted by another area owner for not consulting them when choosing WAP's that are for our facility yet had to be installed in theirs per the request of the facility's IT department. I have never seen anything like this chit but I will squash it as that is what I do .
The existing WAP's that are installed I am surprised they were accepted for a clean environment as the are POS but heh seems that is the way it works in the Big Pharma world .....

Sooo tomorrow I will get up but at 4:00 am instead of 3:00 am to take care of this BS am somewhat pleased to have an extra hour but oh wait a minute I am going to be getting to bed 2 hours later as I had to fabricate, clean up and load the tools I need for tomorrow..... (End of Rant) Still have to make it up to Vermont and tour the plant and get my ton of pellets which I will need after the upcoming cold week or weeks ahead .

How is everybody doing on this fine Fricking Chilly night ? Guess we have a little bit of snow coming unlike it appears you Northerly neighbors. Stove is working hard trying to keep the shack warm, the dino burner may actually kick on tonight to assist as it is going into single digits and the stove needs to be cleaned.

    Hope all are well .
