Actually got out of work on time (3:30) so hurried home to do a 2nd round of leaf mowing and raking (it was almost as bad as it was Sunday). With the Nor'Easter coming tomorrow night, we'll get lots of rain in a short time and all the leaves left will probably be blown off the trees. Want the drainage as clear as possible!

Weather was NASTY this morning...raining sideways.

Just quit for a few minutes so we grabbed some buckets and fetched up shells for tonight and tomorrow morning.

More rain coming....big time wet a coming.....

Finally got things better organized in the basement.

More room to park a few barrels in the aisle way....while we use the contents..

Well that sux and those leaves will hold onto the moisture - so yeah, you'll have tons o' fun.

Wish I could have gotten home earlier than dark this evening and raked leaves out of the drainage area again. A lot of leaves have fallen since cleaning up yesterday and it almost sounded like it was raining. Rain started at 7:01 pm (I know because I had just gotten to the back door from a run to the compost pile).

Well it's been probably 6 + years since we removed the engine from the button factory, and a 2 year restoration in my home workshop, and another nearly 2 years of getting everything set up in the engine building and dialed in. Finally!

With the expert assistance of Conner and Ethan to dial the engine in it runs quite well!

    Well now...
The nasty weather is here in earnest now.

    Wind and rain.

Yesterday afternoon late I hear a BANG on the side of the house ...

The storm door is slammed into the side of the house... arrrrrrgh

The latch striker plate had not been catching the striker since summer as the door has started to sag MORE.

We have had at least 4 storm doors on this place since new...Even replaced the back door with an opposite hand one to try and keep the door out of the direct wind stream.

Then some ignorant delivery driver (Brown or white truck) sticks a sticker on the inside door and then does not make sure the storm door is latched.

We come home to a door thrashed to death and hanging in shreds.

I even put a sign in the door window that read "MAKE SURE STORM DOOR IS LATCHED" IN BIG LETTERS

Guess these drivers can't read ??????:picard:

So last night I took the air spring off (Bent shaft) and straightened it.

Took the striker plate off and put it in the mill and slotted the opening down more to allow this sagging azz POS to latch again.

    All good for now.

Back last winter we fought with this beast...and stupid delivery people...

I decided that a sliding heavy duty storm door was the ticket.

Gonna use a barn door type track with the rolling internal trolley

Build the door frame from steel box tubing.

Cover the lower half with house type siding and add a white vinyl window on top.

During the summer the door can stay rolled open.

The issue is that the wind blows the rain right into the lower part of the inner door and the water eventually runs in under the door and onto the laundry room floor.

From there it runs into the water heater cabinet and then into my office/computer room (Small bedroom)

The storm door does not have to be air tight...just needs to keep the driving rain off the inner door

I did some measurements and sketched it all up back last winter.

NOW IT IS GONNA HAPPEN (Spring likely)

Hopefully I can keep the old door hanging until then...

There was a flirtation with adding a dormer type room over the area and incorporating it into the deck....too costly and a lot of work...
