cleaned mine Saturday. I have not been able to get all the way up my 29' flue, so I put the 40' ladder up on the chimney and tied it off to the corner windows in the master bedroom. since open heart surgery I wasn't real keen on climbing so son David did it and sent the brush down..
Quite a bit came out. now I need to find a better brush than the one I have with a 1" ball on the end. any suggestions?

I took today as my first vacation day since Christmas. Picked up the last ton I had on layaway at TSC. Decided to place it in the tent garage since the new car is a bit longer and wider than the old car so it would be really tight in the under-house garage. I had two of the cover bags left from when I had 11 tons outside a couple of years ago, so I used those to cover up this ton. Then I put a pallet on top and to both exposed sides to keep the wind from taking them off (we'll see how that works).

1 ton pellets in tent garage.jpg

With the pellets I have in the garage and basement I am starting the season off with 5.8 tons. The P43 has cycled once each morning since Saturday.

I started up the good snow blower and checked to see if the new belt I installed last month helped the auger turn. Seems to be working better. Of course the proof is how it moves snow. Topped off the oil too (I changed it when I did the belt).

Just an observation.....IIRC, this was the 1st full winter for that blower, or was it the 2nd ???

I'm surprised it needed a belt already. The Craftsman blower I had from 2003 - 2014 only needed a belt after about 7 years, and I blew a LOT of sn*w in that time. Just sayin'

No, this was the 2nd. It is the Sno-Tek (Ariens), which seem to be famous for stretching their belts out, past the ability to adjust for. Didn't help that last winter had such sloppy/heavy/icy conditions and it may have gotten a big piece of ice jammed in the throat because I remember hearing a belt squeal but neither shear pins broke. When I watched the auger, it barely rotated even with no load. There was belt cr*p all over when I took it apart last month. With the new belt, it seems to be rotating fine.

I got the bare-bones Craftsman at the end of the season to finish up since I didn't have anyone to take the Sno Tek to, no way to get it there anyway, and I don't mind having a back up for when it is needed.

I did mine this morning and fired it up. Happily it ran fine. Now I can be warm on the 48* mornings we've been having.

Most of our humming birds seemed to have packed their bags and headed south.

Yeah.. I have one of those that I got on eBay a long time ago...
But you didn't answer the second part of the question...

"Do you find that the "real" stats work much better?
I'm not all that impressed with the Harman setup..
I'd like something that reacts quicker, and more accurately."

    Thanks, Dan

When set at 68*, in a different room, it turns on at 67 and shuts down at 69. Living room obviously gets a bit warmer than 69*, but not colder than 67*. I don't really know if it is more accurate since my main goal is to keep the back bedrooms "warm enough". I'm not correcting for the Harman's temp probe, but for the far rooms cooling off faster.

I have rods, I think 1/4 20. but my brush seems to quit going up at about 24 feet. might have to buy new rods to match a new brush. I saw one that was snap in place like telescoping tent poles. that way they cannot disconnect in the chimney.

Chupi never ceases to amaze me.
She will let me know if we need a fire by looking in the fire door glass and chirping if there is no fire.

One night we had a power drop for just long enough that the stoves shut off (Winter time)

Wee hours of the early morning she gets up on the bed and starts raising heck..
Meows, chirps, trills and pawing at us.

I wake up and notice the night table clock blinking..

I roll out and Chupi immediately starts trying to get me out to the family room.

Stove is off and the house is cooling off, Chupi runs to the living room and starts Chirping and looking into the stove glass.

5 minutes and both stoves are lit up and I'm back in the rack.

Soon Chupi is snuggled back up by my side all happy.

Yes, but don't plan on running much more than a couple cell phones chargers and a laptop or 2.......maybe a very small coffee maker.

Nice unit, though. 20 Lb. external tank should run that thing for quite a while.

If you want more power and still run off Propane, this is a real nice, very quiet unit (obviously, more $$$ though):

Now this might be a sweet deal for keeping the heat on during the outages we see..
I AM GOING TO DO MORE RESEARCH ON THIS BAD BOY.

I keep a lot of the little propane jugs on the shelf as we use a torch to lite the stoves.

Add the 5 gallon tank and be set for quite a while.
