Washing the house is a big job......

Especially if it's two story or like ours...on an exposed daylight basement on one side.

i did the right hand first floor back but these folk use hot water and various soaps, low pressure anti-fungal roof the works. I did the whole back side many years ago this is the first time for the whole house. House is 100% vinyl covered, got'em a good case of lichen.

The scum, algae and other crud that grows is a pain.

We get the scum and algae on the deck treads.

Summer before last I ripped off the cedar deck treads on the East end 40 feet and replaced one major beam and then put 2 x 6 pressure treated wood back down.

The crud does not grow on the pressure treated stuff nearly as bad and some stuff will not grow at all on it.

I am thinking about replacing the stair treads on the main stair case up to the south deck. (Main entry)

The Algae makes the treads slippery in the winter.....very much so.

Most of the crud is gone some of what's left will be gone next rain. The artillery fungus will never be gone,if you use mulch you have some artillery fungus.

That is why I have pea gravel on 3 sides of the house. The 4th side is under the back porch and ramp that goes the entire length of the house, so I don't need anything there since it is always in shade and nothing grows there.

I also used pea gravel for the shade garden out next to the swamp - bark mulch would just get moldy and the swamp can stink enough at times :fart:. In the sitting area out back, I have white stone between the pavers. I do use bark mulch in a couple of dryer areas that are a bit away from the house. Oh yeah, don't need to encourage termites, carpenter ants or any other wood burrowing/eating insects with all the dead damp wood in the swamp - let them stay over there!
