2008 I potty trained Blondie with a bell hanging on the doorknob. Worked well, except, I had some medical issues and was not myself, and realized I was getting up and down without realizing it, like shifting gears in a car. Very old hunting dog learned the bell too and had me up and down off the chair every several minutes.

After uncovering the Vermonts that were buried in the garage on Friday, I layered a bag of them in the P61a with a bag of MWP's. Last night it was evident the Vermont's had hit as there was no ash mustache, but other things were puzzling me. Such as, it seemed that every time I went downstairs the flame was all but out and I couldn't believe that I was always catching it at shut down. After deliberately shutting it down this morning and checking to make sure everything was put together correctly. I restarted it and observed from start to finish of a cycle. I believe I have a very good theory on why the P61a exhaust was dirtier than expected when I cleaned it on Friday.

When burning the Matras and Vermonts, the stove is only running about 5 minutes from initial flame until it shuts down. It literally doesn't need to run any longer to get the basement back up to temp. With middling and poor pellets, it runs longer so heats up all the exhaust and interior of the stove pretty well, keeping stuff from sticking. The short run times is a direct result of 1) basement is only 650 sq/ft (but it has always been that size), 2) the stove is in one corner aimed so the air does a complete circuit around the stairs so it comes back in short order to the probe (new stove location and wall knocked out). 3) I finished insulating the last basement cinderblock wall and put in the rest of the flooring system so it doesn't have any heat sinks it is trying to keep warm. #2 & 3 are new this year and I didn't realize how big of an effect it has on how the stove runs.

The P43 on the other hand, always runs a good amount of time as it is actually heating from the coldest part of the house (the bedrooms) back toward the warmest. The air stream is aimed directly to the back rooms so cold air rushes back thru and affects the thermostat until a sort of equilibrium is reached. That would lead it to really like the better pellets - although burn time is shorter with better pellets, it still has plenty of time to get all parts nice and hot.

I'll adjust my pellet strategy with these thoughts in mind.

No but I wouldn't hesitate to give them a shot, if the advertising is correct it sounds like they come from straight up sawdust from either Milling, planing, or furniture / flooring company.
