    No like
Just an inch or two stuff on the grassy areas here and almost gone already. Except for the areas that still exist from where the sn*ow blower was throwing it over the winter

Ground is too soft for the *blower here, time to break out the shovel and get to work.. After more coffee.

The '01 Intrigue saga continues: good news: after 5 months, all leaks in the cooling system are repaired. Not loosing any coolant after the TB gasket and hose replacement. Rob's a Happy Camper about that.

Bad news: the bugger is -still- overheating after operating temp., and sitting for 20-30 minutes. When I pulled the TB and hoses, there was a bunch of "Dexcool sludge" slime crap at the metal piping / hose inlets..

Cleaned up the piping involved by fishing it through w/ some Nylon trimmer line and compressed air, but suspect that same crap is the radiator, heater core, and engine block, sigh. Gonna have to try a coolant system flush product, not too thrilled about it though: many parts on this ("ShortStar" LX5 3.5 liter v6) motor are no longer available.

Researching for a product that eat Dexcool sludge, w/o nuking the system I just got fixed after 5 months of "repair joy".

Lot's of u-tube vids of folks using various "methods" to clean, including a few using a pond / aquarium pump running solution through the radiator / heater core / block only without the engine running.. MacGuyverism at it's finest.

At least I know where next month's Beer money is going. :picard:

If any of you motor-heads reading have had any good experience w/ a coolant flush product, that dissolves coolant slime quickly, and would like to give a Beer-deprived Pellet Head a heads-up on that product: it would be much appreciated.

That is kind of funny, I think. But can't remember just why. :( :deadhorse:

Me too. Nothing that Vice Grips, WD-40, and good duct tape can't fix.

First of all, DexCool is an awesome, long life coolant. Lasts a LONG time.....I didn't change the DexCool in my '02 Trailblazer until I hit 150K miles, and it was like new in there. BTW, are you SURE it's DexCool????? If the wrong coolant was used in the past, problems arise after time.

    All that said, try this:

If this doesn't solve your problem, I suggest a good radiator shop that can remove the radiator, reverse flush it and check insides. Did you ever replace the water pump?

Hi Pete, thanks for responding to my call for help, much appreciated. :handshake:

re: am I sure it's DexCool sludge - kinda. Sort of. maybe. Agree it's an excellent long-life coolant that doesn't give any problems in a properly maintained system. It's just given the 'sorted past' on this particular vehicle, by any previous owners or mechanics, I suspect incompatible coolant mix.. It sure looks like it. But ... Having had a long-term slow system leak, where the system has been exposed to air - hasn't helped either, I'm sure.

re: Water Pump - yup: new 1-piece (OEM) Thermostat / housing block replaced Nov.'17 to solve stuck-open thermostat, vehicle was not reaching operating temp. -> closed-loop for state Emissions testing,

new (Gates) Water Pump back in Dec. '17, to solve impeller seal leak discovered after thermostat replacement,

and the latest: TB gaskets and TB Heater hoses last week.

    --
There is also a pipe that runs from the Thermostat housing block, is snaked under the Intake Manifold, along the side of the motor (buried behind the exhaust manifold), up to the heater core inlet: I'm going to bypass with a length of Heater Hose this week. Pipe looks like it's degrading after 17 years: was only visible after removing the TB, for that service.

I'll try flushing out the radiator only, as a first step, with the Blue Devil product this week.

Just as a point of information, "modern" stats are designed to fail in the "open" position so you can still drive the vehicle. Don't know how far back it goes, but my '02 Trailblazer has this.

Good luck with the flush. Keep us updated how you make out.

That's cool, didn't know that.

    Thanks Pete, I will.

I have to fabricate some 1 1/4" adapters -> to isolate & hookup 3/4" hose to the upper/lower radiator hose ports,
and order a 400 GPH rated pond pump, w/ the Blue Devil flush product, from Amazon today.

I have a 5 gal. lobster pot the pump & fluid will sit in, so it will be easy to see what's coming out of the radiator, while the fluid circulates through.. I also plan on covering the pump inlet w/ cheese cloth, to further filter the fluid going through the pump.

They stopped filming in Maine after the fallout from one episode when the Portland Press Herald exposed their undercover warden that was breaking the law and encouraging others to do the same.

I was at the local bank yesterday morning to get some legal stuff done and a lady was talking to a teller. She said she had to shovel 5" of snow that morning. The teller asked where she lived and the response was your town - I immediately thought of you CleanFire ! Poor guy, you seem to get hit bad. I mean it snowed here all Friday night until daybreak yesterday but the temps were on the cusp so even in the yard it was just enough to completely cover the brown, but not enough to measure.

Ahhhhh, That would be a no! :p :shiver:

Welp, If I'd get thrown in the clink, He'd likely just keep fishing!! Momma would likely have to come get me! :emb: And I'd hear it all the way home!! :BrianK: :heidi:

Speaking of that, You reminded me we need to get our trout stamps. A couple of lakes we bass fish at are trout management lakes so we are require to get stamps even if we don't fish for trout! :emptywallet:
