Aren't you supposed to use the sweeping brush that came with the stove to clean those tubes? Then you remove the clean out ports and get the crud left in the bottom of the heat exchanger passages.

ETA: For the rest of the gang she has opened up the combustion side of her stoves heat exchanger not the air output side. But in general both sides of the exchanger must be cleaned.

  I thought he was joking!!!

Yes, very specific instructions to use that specific brush INSIDE the tubes. With a warning it must me done in one motion. The tubes are atleast 1.5' long, I could not even get the brush more than a few inches down it.

See page 37, am I using the tool upside down or something?

I understood the directions to mean sweep the ash down the tubes from the top, vacuum the crud out of the bottom.

The brush end goes into tubes. With a new brush is probably going to be tight untill gets some use.If too tight for you you could buy a softer brush like a bottle brush. If you need to finish today, straighten a clothes hangar, put a few kinks in it and work up and down in each tube while turning, will also tell you if there are any opstructions.

And,in case nobody ever told you, burn stove on high for 30-60 minutes before shutting down to clean.Makes life easier.

phew! the hanger worked great! No obstructions but it loosened alot than I vacuumed out! Going for a brown smoothie, 2 o'clock coffee not doin it for me. Now, I just need to replace the bolt on cover under the burn pot. I got the small piece of what was left of the wing nut off with my shower handle, now need to figure out how to get the bolt out. Drolet sent a new bolt and wing nut.

You also have 2 side panels to remove and vacuum on the left side.

Also,if the new wing nut screws onto bolt ok,don't replace bolt, just use new wingnut for now.Bolt I believe screws in from back.
