Heat tape and a Therm Guard should be in your future.

let's see......bought the heat tape to help with a short pipe for the toilet in the 1/2 bath - installed but I still need to move the pipe away from the outside corner.

bought a ThermGuard for the 2nd floor heat exchanger. it is sitting on the desk in the study - for two years! prolly won't help there.

    I need a roundtoit!

At first I thought it was the plow, noisy and after all, the foundation is on ledge so we were shaken just a bit. But the dogs, oh, one of them barked for 10 min. He was all worked up. I didn't know it was a quake at first. Then it was on the internet.

We get the movement from the white mountain area because we are on that plate we don't get the quakes from your neck of the woods.

    Thermguard is great.

My electric bill was $234 last month. I was pretty happy.

Here in the wonderful town of Luneyburg we get our electric through a NH company called Unitil and we pay the 4th highest rate in the United States well at least the last time I checked . I paid when I first moved to this town a whopping $700 electric bill as I did not know or pay enough attention to the rates being charged. This is the only option that we have here residentially as only commercial can use a different carrier. It is so bad that there is even a website/group that has been created by a bunch of angry customer's called getridofunitil. We have obviously curtailed our use of electric as the state of MA has done nothing to help us nor any other organization or government sector.

I wonder if there are incentives to go solar? Where the price of electricity is so massive, why not some alternatives like solar, home windmill etc. sometimes there are grants, incentives etc. I bet those who sell solar panels will know about them.

No heat tape here Pete - it's the Poly well line, we tried it years ago, the heat tape lasted about 3 years.

We ended up re-trenching / burying a new water line from the well cap 3' down, w/ foam board insulation.. That sits partially on Granite ledge also. ... Normally everything's fine, but get a week or so of < 10F > -negative temps. ... and there's gonna be problems. :picard:

Back in '03-'04 (or was it '04-'05? Can't remember, CRS) I pulled the well cap off, and stuck a 100w light bulb down there - * when you could actually buy an incandescent light bulb, sigh - insulated the well head w/ a wool blanket, and stuck a contractor bucket over the whole mess.. I was younger, and more stupider then.

Thanks ! With these register dampers going in, the heat's not going to kick on as often - we need to have a freeze guard for downstairs - I will check this out.
    :handshake:

I use mine with my central heat/air blower. Comes on every 30 minutes and runs for 5 minutes. Gets air to the fringes of the house to avoid super cold stale air spots.
