Should have waited 15 minutes before leaving the house this morning. 1.5 miles into the drive I got caught behind a state plow. On that back road (technically a state road), they do just over 10 MPH so it took about 40 minutes to go the first 8 miles (that includes the first 1.5 miles that wasn't behind a plow). All for about 3" of snow (still snowing so will get more for a total out of the storm). The good news is that the route changes to another DOT district after 8 miles so at the turnaround spot I was able to up my speed to 30-35. And then I got onto a main road and was able to go the speed limit (which varies between 25 and 50). Got to the 20 mile mark in 55 minutes - at that point I should have been to work (or nearly so).

And, just so's you know, I'm not one of those crazy people out there that drive right at the edge of losing control (or worse).

Little warm up on the way and will take advantage of that to repair the garage door opener that quit working on Monday. Motor runs but doesnt move the chain. Its a worn drive gear that needs replacing. Seems the Sears, Chamberlain and Liftmaster are all the same units and all still use the same drive setup going all the way back to 1989. There is a kit that Liftmaster sells for 15 bucks that has all the parts that might be needed and is not too bad to replace without taking the unit down if not replacing the worms gear on the motor. I verified that the worm gear is fine and the usual culprit is the drive gear on the shaft.

Garage Door Gear Kits | LiftMaster Parts

As I installed both openers in 1994, I thought I would replace the unit but someone mentioned if it has the safety devices (they do) and work then why replace. The motor probably has under 20 hours work on it. Also the new units wont work with the buttons on my 2009 Honda due to new frequencies being used-a compatible bridge unit would be needed.

About 5 inches here and no issues getting out. Besides a couple of slick spots, Ride in was uneventfull. Have a nice day off(slacking!)..... :D

Hate getting caught behind them. Drives me :hair: and :headbang:. Had them swerve out in my lane as I tried passing. So I usually just tuck in behind them!!

The past several days have been very warm for January, but it's nice not having to run the big stove 24/7
The little Whitfield Prodigy (My avatar pic) is handling the 2300 ft great.

Big storm coming in with lottttttsssssaaaa rain and mountain snow.

Good bet that by tomorrow some time we will be back on the Big Whit as the temps are gonna drop a bunch.

Ahh well... just another typical PNW Winter

The first 12 miles I drive you couldn't get past one regardless - they take up more than one lane, especially with the wing on. Only 2 lanes (1 each way) the lanes are barely big enough to hold my Explorer as it is. Coming the other direction is special as you hope that the off-road tires (passenger side) are on a flat and not going into a ditch (no shoulder).

Total sn*wfall of about 7". Waited until about 1 PM to do the cleanup, and all done by 3. Hope the 45* predictions for Sat & Sun hold up and get some of this chit melted.

Maybe about 5 inches, maybe more. Still snowing. Light stuff. reported to be slippery. I didn't go out today. Fearful of our hill which only gets plowed at the end of the storm. When I had 4 wheel drive, it wasn't an issue, but now, I am much older, not able to do much of anything to get myself out, and can't walk but a short distance so I just stay home inside. Found plenty to do so no issue there. Never an end to the 'round to its.

Plowed snow monday, then has been nice here, and warmed up,30's to 40 during the day, very nice..Checked out a neighbors plow, neds king bolt and bushings, but will be fine for the winter, other neighbor bought new/used dump truck(peterbuilt),we chained it and got it to his shop(way above me),he will not use it until snow melts, another neighbor visited today(he was lonely, kis wife at work, lol),so have to get to town tomorrow to get fuel for plow, found out it appears the property where they slapped up a barn is probably a pot legal grow provider, lol. Most interaction in a few days than I have had in long time,on top of that all 3 sisters have called me,and talked my ears of,lol, seems I am the peacemaker amoungst them, again, that is OK,have done it before.A bit of weather coming in,a bit of snow, but extreme wind, which I hate.

Sad part Smoke is no they Need Luney there as I am the only Super there that is over the age of 32 and I have 38 years of experience in the industry with the exception of a 5 year stint with logging and firewood and a few years farming . I am a workhorse a pusher who creates relationships with the subcontractors instead of threatening them with back charges ect....

I am old school and the top dogs(Owner and #2 man) have me here for that reason as they(younger personal) preach team team team ! but whenever talking its always I have this or I have done that or the best of all as if they are building these projects by them selves I want this. Just don't get it but this is where I am in contrast to the previous job I was on where i worked with the General Super who is 71 years old and has all the values I appreciate including work ethic, being a Military veteran and he was a Sniper in the Marines in Viet Nam and also of the Irish decent. Just a down to earth salt of the earth man who shares the same work ethic and values as myself. This project was refreshing and dont get me wrong STRESS is always a part of it as the schedules are ridiculously aggressively and challenging (nearly impossible)but we worked as a true team and did well, in fact this job is in the running for Project of the year.

The company has grown to a multi billion dollar company in the last 6 years I have been there and the owners have the right idea of being prosperous by taking care of their employees .
OK end of Rant sorry for the Splurge .

Got home last night to 5-6" of snow. Was in the middle of snow blowing when the chute directional handle (plus rod) came off in my hand. Lost the "spring clip" (what I would call a "D ring") that attaches it to the chute collar. I finished snow blowing using the manual method of turning the chute for the next 30 minutes. Had me doing some funky patterns compared to normal so I wouldn't have to stop and turn it so many times.

After I got done I rummaged around my odds and ends and came up with a short term solution - an insulated staple (cable tack). the tack was the only thing the right size for the holes so I stripped off the insulation part, inserted the tack and bent it to keep it in there. Now I just gotta figure out what size spring clip I need since the book doesn't tell me, and then figure out where I can get one.

At least that is just a minor irritation and didn't stop the snow blower in its tracks.
