Ya, I know, but doesn't mean I have to like it. I'll have to start running my happy light.

I like the aluminum for not rusting like steel will. Undercoat the bottom and it should be bullet proof.

The PCV change is suppose to stop the fouling of #1 and #7 plugs. #1 has been affected but not #7 and it has been using oil for a while now (which I had attributed to being a chevy with over 100K). Now thai I see the #1 plug being as bad as it was I am really hoping this change stops that and the oil consumption. Also did the upper end cleaning yesterday.

Part 2 of this issue is possible the active fuel management where there is another change for that in the oil pan. I am not looking to pull the pan so if anything I might find a way to turn off the AFM, which is a better option anyway.

There is also a chance that there are piston ring issues including the possibility of a stuck oil ring so I changed the oil today and put some Seafoam in there.

Thanks to smoke show for the tech bulletin from GM and the tip on trying Seafoam in the oil.

My old 200 year old house has a dirt basement so it's always pretty damp. My furnace (that never gets used) has an old rusty oil tank that is ready to fail. I was looking at new tanks but decided to check Craigslist. Found a guy in town who just converted to gas and has an empty tank he just wants gone. About 10 years old. My upstairs tenant and I went and picked it up today. Score! Now all I have to do is pump the 150 gallons of oil out of my old tank and into 55 gallon drums, get the old tank out, put the new one in, hook it up and pump the oil back in. Easy peasy. :faint:

Remember when auto parts counter workers knew about auto repair?

Last weekend I called a local Chevy dealer to see if they had the valve cover for the Avalanche. Got a young girl who had no clue beyond computer prompts and insisted that I needed the last 2 of the vin. I had already seen the bulletin that made no mention of 5.3 engine differences on the valve cover. Just for chits, I went on Rockauto and verified that both versions of the 5.3 use the same valve cover.

I tried mentioning it is the cover that has the changed PCV for oil use and plug fowling. Nothing, nada, empty space o_O. Back in the day if you asked a Chevy parts person for a 2008 5.3 valve cover, they would reply back: "using oil or fowling plugs, are ya?"

I know CL around here regularly has oil tanks for free because people are switching to propane.

Congrats on the oil tank - I'd be looking at an decent electric fuel transfer pump with the $$$ you saved on the tank, if here.. Something like this:

    12 Volt Diesel Transfer Pump

Or an inexpensive fuel-rated pump only if you are going to "roll you own" with fittings/hoses/etc - (eBay)

FACET / PUROLATOR PRO 06SV 7 PSI FUEL PUMP*
*12 volt Neg ground*pumps 32 gal per hour*

    .. ( That's a lot of fuel to transfer. ) ..

CMP has been going yo-yo on its restoration last night and this morning likely those leaning poles and trees finally got into the act.

Who are you asking? The last 12 tons I got about 3(I think) years ago (the blend) were burning fine for me, it has been awhile and they have changed I'm sure.
