81* right now - high temp was 87*. So much for their "in the 70's" prediction.

Nah, they just hide the chit a little better now..

    Oil Filter:

    Radiator Cap:
The Coolant Reservoir has a pressurized cap / replaces a separate Radiator Cap.

    Spark Plugs:

Just a few special tools, like a good Torx set - the '08 Taurus has lots of those fasteners, on it here.

Behind the house - in the shade - from a digital weather station. And I just looked on Wunderground, and a station not too far from me is reading a little higher - but it is out in a field and probably in the sun

Well, I started thinking about it, and figured I'd try cleaning the air bleed with a thin piece of wire off a wire brush. Worked like a charm, along with some Carb cleaner spray. Re-assembled it, started right up, and no more surge. :dancer:I did see a tiny piece of crud in the hole, so that was the culprit.

Slightly raised the idle speed too. Took the plug out, checked that & the gap, re-installed. Checked the oil, put a capful of Stabil in the gas, shook the machine around to mix it, started it and let it idle for about 15 min. Shut off, backed her into the shed, done until winter!!

Interesting that they're using cartridge-type filters again. Haven't seen one of those on a car since the early 70's.

It seems to be the trend again w/ the smaller boosted GDI motors, was reading an interesting article on it the other month (I'll see if I can find it again) - basically said the engine designers have more flexibility w/ tuning internal oil flow -> ducting -> placement w/ cartridge canister location, vs. a 'traditional' spin-on filter.

Kinda makes sense: takes less square footage to unscrew a cap, and pull a cartridge out. And, if you can arrange placement so the clean oil flow is close(r) to the turbo, that doesn't sound too bad either.

Seems that the environmental movement has something to do with this. Less material gets tossed in the landfill. See this article:
Canister vs. Cartridge - National Oil & Lube News

"California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery reported if all of the spin-on filters sold annually in California were recycled, there’d be enough steel to build three large sports stadiums."

In addition, easier to inspect the filter media for "debris". There is also the issue of more moving parts, and the possibility of not getting the o-rings seated right......hard to F-up with a spin-on.

Thanks, good article. :handshake: All that makes sense, including the ability to incinerate an EOL cartridge, vs. sticking it in a landfill. I'm cool w/ that.

I must have read the ' Engineer's article ' version.. :picard:

Agree 100% is much harder to F-up w/ a spin on filter.. The canisters can be 'tricksy'. (I would be doing dealer change, or myself, if here. Which I do anyway. )

i recall as a kid checking carefully after changing the cartridge filter. on the 64 international pickup, one spit out 3 quarts of oil before you could shut the motor down! pinched gasket. i still check under the vehicle every oil change - spin on or not!
and double check the tightness of the oil plug as well

pulled down a Ford Model A engine today, before and after Easter dinner at friends. the engine is new to us and is slated for the Tieman tractor (a home made tractor design from 1950's Popular Mechanics)

great news inside. a recent overhaul and new clutch were discovered. i think all i need to do is free up the valves and re-gasket it. we'll see if i have to grind seats or valves, or do inserts. need a special tool to remove the valve stems with the valves.

I put a sheet of thick paper from the bottom of a ton of pellets under the truck in the garage to see if anything is leaking.

I also leave one in the bed of the truck (soft tonneau cover used) and pull it out to the tailgate when I use the tailgate for a workbench-great for cleaning the chainsaw and other dirty jobs

I save all of those paper sheets for odd jobs

Changed the engine and cabin air filters in the Camry today. We had some friends living in there. Also there is a picture of the new filters that went in. Picked these up on A*azon. While I'm sure they will be fine, they do not "fit like a glove" like the Fram aftermarket engine / cabin filters for my Accord. Will be using Fram air filters from now on.

It only took a few minutes yesterday of looking under the hood of my truck before I just shook me head and lowered the hood.

    The AC is on.

I worked for 5 hours outside on Saturday. Perfect weather in shorts to be working outside for long periods of time.

    Sunday, not so much.

I need to do the oil on my truck. No so much the mileage, but the time. Lots of city driving, and it sits.
