Greetings Larry, thanks for the feedback.

That's true, for many folks, the combined plans are a very good deal, it's just we get no (zero) service here in our area from the towers: US Cellular / Verizon are the only option.. It just doesn't make financial sense for us to switch in the near term.

We've had DirecTV for 7+ years now, in fact, they were the only option available to us following the Ice Storm of '08 - there was such extensive damage to the infrastructure in town w/ cable, the then-current local cable provider decided to pull out, rather than repair.. There were just not enough customers in town to justify rebuilding: that company had purchased the existing lines from another company only a year or so earlier.

At the time, Dish was not an option either, our location was not 'compatible' with them, due to line-of-sight. That's changed though, both w/ additional satellites, and our having some extensive tree work done this summer.

I agree w/ the content being delivered via web - that's what I'm working on setting up now, as a "Plan B" at the moment. I'm also seeing what is involved to stream the game live on Sunday, to prevent being served Divorce papers on Monday a.m.

Personally, I liked DirecTV for the many years we've had it, except for the occasional disruption in service due to weather, the picture and quality have been excellent, it's worked well.

Issue currently is the borderline 'predatory' marketing undertaken by AT&T, again following loss of ABC - those folks made a big mistake calling repeatedly & hanging up on the Boss after her missing the game on Sunday / her shows during this week - Hell Hath no Fury like a Woman Scorned.

(Did I mention she's highly peeved?)

Sigh.

We just got home from town, I have 20+ feet of 6 gauge bare copper wire, some 300-75 ohm Baluns, an indoor HDTV amplifier from Radio Shack, and a bunch of bits & pieces to begin forming -> fabricating 2 HDTV antennas this evening, to attempt to get WMUR 9 OTA.

Wish me luck! ... I'll need it.

 

Rob I have plan C find a bar showing the game treat your honey to a meal and a few cocktails while see watches the game , it might save your Azz this weekend in case the plan B don't work

Remember the days of old when you went to the local pub/bar to watch the games. I would have thought that Rob might have limited options for this, but it sounds like that is not the case

 

So, up till last evening we were in the clear for no sn*w until next Wednesday...YAY

Was woken this morning at 4:30 am to the sound of the plow going by-shovel time but we are ok till Wed
This evening now has us getting plowable whine tomorrow

Plan C is in-place: the local Applebee's Rest. in Keene will have the game on Sunday, she likes their food, and plenty of Smoothies on-tap.

I'm grabbing a Beer and start measuring / cutting copper wire for the 1st HDTV antenna now.

 

Yeah, I gave my honeys' 26 year old daughter and her boyfriend Buffalo Wild Wings gift card for Christmas-that is where they go to watch the games, so they have an afternoon or night on me. This included extra 2 bonus cards that will have anywhere from 5-100 bucks on each of them. Hopefully at least one is more than 5 bucks

My grumble and moan side is bigger than the other side. Usually a LOT bigger

 

I switched to the basic Dish flex pack a couple months ago and have an antenna for locals. Everything I want to watch is in that package, and most of what my wife watches is on Netflix.

I was going to switch to DirecTV but I wasn't considered a new customer as I had their service in the past, so no deals for me. That is probably for the best, as AT&T and I haven't seen eye to eye in the past.

 

Heck ww, I'd buy her the winery, right about now.
