go ahead and mount the scope, we'll walk you into getting proper eye-relief and such. Your rifle looks the nex-gen of mine. You'll like it.
Scope mounted, played around with adjusting i. I know I need to bring the whole thing towards the butt of the gun.
Grizz, from the pic. you're about as far back as your gonna get if you keep the rings in the same location. Loosen and scootch the front ring rearward, then try this- With both rings loosened around the scope... Close your eyes and shoulder the rifle. Open your eyes and see how the scope looks, as far as a full field of view. Don't worry about the reticle being correct yet. Move the scope back and forth until you feel good about it. Snug down the rings to receiver screws, but don't crank on them. Adjust the reticle until it sights right for you, after you open your eyes. (don't get carried away, try to keep the reticle as in-line/vertical to the bore as you can) Snug everything down, then walk around while blinking rapidly. clearing your sinuses and shaking your arms. Take a few deep breaths, then.. Close your eyes, shoulder the rifle, open eyes and if it looks good, tighten everything down. You should be good to go.
I will work on that tomorrow night-- heat wave and Charlie the cat kept us up late last night so I'm going to head to bed a bit early tonight. I printed off some targets for practice--'rabbits, raccoons, ground hogs, zombies, cobra commander. You know, the normal stuff.
It's possible. I had never fired anything larger than my nephews BB gun which is tiny in my hands. This one was big enough to feel comfortable after a half dozen shots.
Be careful. Much like marijuana, pellet rifles are looked upon a s a "gateway" gun. Don't worry, we can help.
The pellet was so weak by the time it hit the squirrel all it did was stop and look around and carry on being a squirrel or squrrey off. I'm sure the $$ pellet guns work great, but most everyone has a .22 and the ammo is cheaper than a pellet gun. There was one squirrel I hate 5 or 6 times before I gave up!. Funny when I returned the gun at Wallmart I told the lady it was a POS. She goes... well hun... you need to use a 12 gauge fer killen squirrels. ALSO I found out that pellet and BB guns are often classed the same as a regular gun. I had got the pellet gun because where I lived in town at the time and knew I couldn't shoot an actual gun. Well... long story short someone called in that I was shooting guns.. Apparently the pop a pellet gun makes sounds like a regular gun to some people. Cops came and I got a slap on the wrist after them explaining a pellet gun had the same rules as a .50 BMG.
I would say pick up a cheap ruger or marlin semi auto 22 next time you have $200 but now a days you can't find ammo for it!! So that won't feed your obsession much. Well you can find ammo for $40-50/500 ...your a new guy so that may not seem bad but all of is remember 2 yrs ago paying $10 for said "brick" so that price is pain full and unthinkable!! New guy to feed his gun may not think anything g of it. I use to shoot 500 or so in a trip!. Contrary to what the media and hollywood would want you to believe guns are good family bonding and fun. My wife had not shot till we met. She likes going with me now when she can. Its a good thing to teach kids responsibility and safe handling too so that if there ever around a friend and they pull out dads gun or something they can show them how to handle it and say they need to put it down and hopefully curtail an unsafe situation or know when to just leave if they feel unsafe if a friend brings out one to show off and is not handeling it safe. Bottom line they are fun. And after seeing how some of these true idiot and deer anger killers have been labeled for having g guns I would be lumps into the same category. Im not physcotic or crazy but cause of the number I have and the ammo I keep I wouldbe labeled to have a "massive arsenal". If you heard any of the reports about how they lalabeled the new town kid that shot up the school..you would this k they had a huge collection or amount...in reality they had no more guns than the average owner probably and really did not have that much ammo on hand..I easily have more than that as do most people that own gins and actually shoot them!! Sorry for the derail but I think you have found something g else a few of us are into
Nothing bigger for me til I move to the country. I will probably eat those words later. The old lady was out there shooting with me, despite giving me crap the whole way home about being Charlton Heston.
I am lucky that I live around lots of forest service land. There are 2 free USFS rifle ranges near me. One 39 mins the other 10. Great to shoot for free. I live in a town of like 40 houses and dont have any land so I candyshoot off the pporch or anything and my farm is 3 hours so I go to the public ranges
Just ask her if she's ever seen his basement. = you win this round, guaranteed. We should ALL get back to the pellet rifle thing. Grizz ain't quite there yet, but close. Let's help him get on target.
This thread makes me want to take the Gamo out the closet - I don't think its been shot in 10yrs. It used to cull the squirrel population when I lived in suburbia. If you're having trouble with the eye relief(needing it further back) you may have to get a different mount - or look into a pistol scope, they provide near unlimited eye relief. If you've got the eye relief where it works for you, start by shooting 3 shots from a bench rest the distance you will normally shoot to - lay it on a bag of rabbit food/cat food as you probably already have that around. Don't make any adjustments and shoot at the same spot - don't try to compensate for missing. After you have a solid 3 shot group start with one adjustment at a time 3 more shots then adjust again, you'll get the hang of it - just remember air rifles are not always really repeatable in terms of accuracy and any breeze will throw them off.
I think there is quite a bit of room to adjust the eye relief, I set it close to the middle initially since I didn't know where I would want it. Can I use my sawbuck as a bench rest?
You can use anything car hood , door, ground. You just want something where you won't have to stand or give much support to your body or gun. Also take normal breaths then on whatever one your ready to shoot, exhale and then squeeze the trigger. You want the gun to be a surprise when it goes off basically. I'm sure the trigger on that gun is probably horrible so it will either be mushy or break really crisp n heavy.
