The Englander Pellet grill has a cast iron grill grate and a bbq grate. Very good at searing. Very hot.

    Hello
I am looking to pull the trigger soon on one. The Yoder 640
YS640s Competition Pellet Grill - Yoder Smokers | YS640s Pellet Competition Cooker
The Rec Tec BFG RT-2500 with WiFi is better.
    BFG RT-2500 Wood Pellet Grill
Both are very good PGs in the Heavy Weight class.
The price is the hard part.
    ————————
The Englander is also a good rugged stove in the Middle Weight class
Englander Smoke-N-Sear 788 sq. in. Pellet Smoker and Grill-21-PG100 - The Home Depot
There are still some good stoves in the bargain class
I am interested in smoking ribs and especially a good brisket so WiFi for this seems to be a must.
Also getting replacement parts like auger motors and blowers easily is something else to consider.
The Pit Boss stove seem to be a real bargain coming in from Walmart for $289.00
    https://www.walmart.com/ip/Pit-Boss...l13=&veh=sem&gclid=CMqewY6x2-ICFQXlyAodDuAHCA
I am looking at the Green Mountain Grills
The Dave’s Crocket is a good bargain for a portable.
I am looking at the Midsize model for us.
There is a big container of them coming into the warehouse the first of July. :)
Daniel Boone with Stainless Steel hood with the Smart Phone WiFi App using Grill on Server mode seems to be the way to go!

I should qualify that my MAK *might* be able to sear (also has a wifi option, BTW), but would draw alot of power in doing so....Anything over about 350 degrees causes it to blow the GFCI breaker its on.......15 amp. Possibly by upgrading the electrical service there might help, but man, I don't know about you guys, but Ive SO much on my plate these days that I cant find time to do the stuff I NEED to do, versus the stuff I WANT to do. Redoing the deck after 30 years, the lawn, the garden, family obligations, working weekends....blah. My doctor now wants me to go to the gym after work....apparently the fact that Ive dropped 35 lbs isnt good ENOUGH (I am now 6'2" and 202 lbs), she wants me to drop more....when I explain to her that there's no gas left in the tank after a day (yesterday my pedometer told me I did 21, 493 steps at work that day), her answer is I have to MAKE the time.....:headbang:

*end rant* (sorry guys and gals)

    Hi LW
This is my slow month although I still have jobs and stove refurbishing which keeps me busy. I am starting to catch up with needed work around the house but this must be your busy season and boy I know how that feels! Your MAK 2 General is a very good quality stove, just have not seen them up this way. The grill business is very competitive and with the bargains flowing out to the street in front of Lowe’s and Home Depot it is hard to wade through them all. :)

LOL - There are a lot to wade through but I know budget is a big factor!
Just like those house hunting shows where the first house they see is one they could not possibly afford to set their expectations!

The only difference between regular heating wood pellets and food grade pellets is the lubrication they use in manufacturing on the extruder and dies.
The food grade machines must use vegetable oil instead of petroleum based oil. :)
Does that really make much of a difference?

Pretty sure the bedding pellets also have to use the vegy oil...........

Propane is a petroleum product, So are most of the juices used to start the charcoal.............

Dont think you want to use softwood for food.

no. Softwoods are only conifer trees. Broadleaf are hardwoods

My Louisiana Grills pellet grill gets to about 650F. One thing you never have to worry about with a pellet grill is sealing the juices. At least, with the brand I have. I don't know about the Traegers or the others. It's the juiciest meat you'll ever have.

You do want to be careful about what you use for fuel in a pellet grill. A lot of other manufacturers add something to their wood. It might be some type of oil or it might even be polystyrene. A few of us add nothing at all but it's hard to tell the difference because those who do add something only add a small percentage and don't advertise what they've added.

Agreed. Only takes 10-15 minutes to get lump charcoal up to burger temp.

It actually takes longer to get a good low temp cook started as you cant just open the vents all the way and let er rip.

I agree searing looks pretty but doesn't do a lot for the taste.

Does your company make food grade hard wood pellets?

We don't make anything packaged or labeled as food grade. We've considered it, but there isn't much of a market.
I can tell you that we don't add anything to our wood. No oils or anything else.
At least for now. There's some interesting research going on at the University of Maine involving extraction of soluble sugars and reduction of ash content.
