Yeah lumberjacks keep the heat steady but the size of pellet is very inconsistent. I'v had a range of 1/4" pellet up to 3" pellet and everywhere in between in one bag.

I get them for $20 a 40lb bag and I pick them up so its not to bad. I buy a 280lbs pounds and done for awhile.

If like to try cooking pellets brand.

These are what I use. I ordered 2 - 40# bags and got free shipping from Amazon.

The cookinpellet brand has lengths up to 1 1/4". I have never had problems but I still beat the hell out of the bag to shorten them up. With another brand of pellet, I can't remember which, were long and very hard which jammed the worm gear that fed the pellets. I don't think this is good for drive motors.

Yeah even the price, maybe I'll try to beat the lumberjack bag like S.Roche

I try to be as gentle as I can with my pellets. I figure I have enough "fines" aka pellet dust to deal with. That stuff is worse for your smoker than long pellets. For the record I find my Lumberjacks to be pretty uniform in length, maybe a few longer than others but not too bad

Yeah the hardwood don't break as easy as softwoods I noticed.

Wow your lucky, I noticed it depends on type. For example, the cherry bag has all 1/4" pellets.
Smoker eats them right up nicely, I move to the blends and some are long 2"pellets, others are very small.

I'm not too worried about fines as I sift them anyways with screen mesh. That's how I find the long ones so often.
