I've used between 4-5 tons of pellets in the past few years, but that was burning with the freestanding stove on the main floor as my primary heat source for 2400 sq ft. I'm using the furnace as my primary heat source now, and have gone through approx 1.5 tons of corn so far this year, along with about about a ton of pellets in the freestanding stove. The furnace is also heating the basement too, which takes the total sq foot up to about 3600.

    Hope that helps.

4-5 tons with a stove for a 2400 square foot home? Ohio winters must be more mild than northern New England winters

I'm a bit further south than you are. I'm approximately directly west of Connecticut. I also have a floorplan that lends itself well to a central heating source and only had to keep the stove area around 71 to keep the rest of the house comfortable enough.

Using pellets only, I have never gone over 4.5 ton, and I am about an hour east of mithesaint

We seem to have similar sized houses in the same region. I will likely hit around 3.5 ton and about 2-3 cord of wood

Does 2-3 cords of wood = 1 ton of pellets??

I checked my boiler this morning. I started the heat up the second week of October and it was doing pretty light duty then but sicne then I have burned 2.76 tons in my 2300 sq ft home. that's a little less than this time last year I think.

It's supposed to be a cord of wood = a ton of pellets.

I don't really benefit from any of that heat. It's nice to have a warm basement, but if I tried to use just the wood stove? We would freeze.

It's mainly to preheat the air for the pellet furnace so it doesn't have to work as hard. I'd probably only burn an extra ton if I didn't burn wood, but then I wouldn't need a chainsaw. LOL.
