I agree about keeping the pipe hot and getting good rise in the flue gasses.

If it were me, I would do a temporary connection to the clay liner and give things a whirl and see how the stove works.

The stove is a forced draft unit, and should be able to warm that 7 inch flue readily.

It will not cost much to get the stove ready to test and if it likes the setup then proceed to tidy up the install.

If the chimney was working well with the wood furnace and not having issues it should be fine with the pellet unit.

Far less chance of a flue fire.

How tall is the chimney from the point where the stove connects to the outlet up top.

Is it possible to coax a flex rod with a brush up through the clean out door to sweep the flue from time to time.

Thinking about the Quadrafire 1000 stoves we have here, the exhaust outlet temp is very hot.... even at 10 feet away from the stove... this fact leads me to believe that your outfit will be quite capable of heating that 7" flue adequately to achieve good air flow.

Thanks for the replies. The only other option is to direct vent it, but it would need to go through the rim joist as the home is built into a hillside and there is dirt to the top of the foundaiton wall. Is this feasible?

    Feasable ??? maybe....advisable, probably not.

Getting sufficient clearance to make code could be tough

Can your layout of the basement help with different placement of the furnace options? Finished basement or bare?
