Those two things are needed when dealing with wood under tension and no heavy equipment to work with. This tree came down a month ago and the main trunk landed like an arch. I tried making a few cuts after freeing it from the stump but started getting the bar pinched. I was planning on getting a friend to help me but when I went into the woods to dump some leaves I had raked up, I found the trunk had rolled over making it easier to get cut up. I will do the final cutting tomorrow. Nice red oak and I will be getting over 35 blocks from it. First pic taken shortly after it came down and the second pic is from today.

What is not going to be easier is quartering the blocks so I can handle them. It is nice to still be able to swing a maul even if I am over 72YO. I don't have to move them far to my splitting area. I used my 192t to cut a few pieces off the one end and then started a kerf every 16 inches down the trunk. The 029 super will finish the cuts.

What is the DBH of that nasty old oak anyway?

Take it easy with the maul. No sense getting nuts.

The diameter measured where I cut it off of the stump was 19 inches.

I got it all cut up today and I got a few split and a couple noodled before I ran out of steam.:BrianK::BrianK::saw::saw::axe::axe:
This one tried to escape. The other blocks that didn't escape is the second pic. 3rd pic is the first one I noodled. Last pic is what I still have to quarter and move to the splitting area. Little punky around the edges but that is only an inch of punk, the rest is solid. The ones I quartered and noodled where brought to the ready to be split pile, you can barely see it on the right of the first pic.

Had a friend over yesterday and he helped me get the last 8 rounds out of the woods and to the splitting area. I had to quarter 7 of them and noodle one of them . I am guessing it was around 1,000 lbs of wood. Having help made short work of this project. Snowed overnight so I am glad I got that done. It is all stacked on pallets so it should start drying over the winter.
