Get a cheap paper shredder and make firestarters out of them.

Several times a year our local Records Management (industrial document shredding service) has a free shredding day. Whatever you bring they'll shred.

I have had a few shredders over the years and have learned one thing. Get a good one with some HP lol. A few extra bucks is well with it IMHO.

When I found super cedars I stopped using paper to start fires.

I also have a small shredder... bills receipts, anything with personal info goes into it. Its slow so if I get lazy and a pile builds up I bring it to work and throw it into the "to be shredded box"

I have a rather large collection of stuff to burn if I can ever get the burn pit ready I will use that but mostly I just use my ash can to burn credit card apps and what not.

Good advice, I sold commercial shredders years ago. My best tip was oil the blades often. Of course I cant get shredder blade oil at cost now...

Nice! I had too many old pine cones at my last home that made starting fires easy. Yours look like much more fun to make than collecting pine cones :) (though I liked coal the best, one good chunk would burn all night and I did not have to start the fire in the morning). Great suggestion, thanks.

You and me both have large collections to burn! I ordered a dumpster for the construction debris from our remodel but I won't put credit card apps etc in it.... I cant wait to use the new ash can. Just to make sure, the ash can is like a metal drum?

So, what's in that shredder oil? Just looks like vegetable oil to me...can you use mineral oil?

most use a metal 55 gallon drum. Like an old oil, hydraulic, or transmission fluid barrel.

Yes I got it at Lowes a while ago its what I use to clean out the stove and take hot ashes outside and lately it has been doubling as a small burn barrel I am looking for a couple of 55 gallon drums to use but they seem to be hard to come by around here.

I can buy as many 55 gallons as I want there $10

They make a stainless cage/barrel to burn in. It has holes in it to keep embers in. I see them advertised in mother earth news.

Sue, I don't remember what oil it was, but it was lite and slippery. I assumed it had some silicon but not sure... I don't know if vegetable oil or mineral oil are fine enough. I DO know the commercial shredders that got regular lubrication had less frequent repairs and repairs are never cheap. Depending on your situation you could try it and let us know, or if its new and expensive I might not take the chance.

My stove is at work. I burn copy paper with standard toner print on it. Mail with plastic on it gets shredded. I've never had a problem. The only issue I see is lots of fluffy ash. The toner can't do much to the stove if anything.

We had one where I worked that required hearing protection. Could shred reams of paper at a time without even flinching.

    Could dump a whole
    background is scrub brush.

Turns out one of the barrels was already rigged for burning|! Vents in bottom, hinged lid on top. Neat deal, worked great. I now have a temporary spot for mail with too much id info on them. LOL he might even try a super cedar next time instead of a splash of gas.:rootintootin:

Yea but you dont need a gallon of deisel to start a barrel of paper on fire:loco: . When I use to burn paper in a barrel I just lit the paper .

With the price of super cedar a splash literally 2ounces will get that paper into a raging inferno.:campfire:
