I think the very first tool I will be purchasing for the new shop will be this shop crane. Changing out implements, pulling engines, installing cabs, tire changeouts, installing rear counterweights, etc. Most of these garden tractors in full dress are 1100 to 1700 lbs. Many of the implements are 200-400 lbs. The crane should come in super handy. I see it on coupon sometimes for $169. I'll wait until the time comes and strike. With the new Ramsey plan I only get a $100/month "fun money" allowance, so I'll have to save for a couple months for this crane, then another few months for the compressor. It'll give me plenty of time to make sure I make the right choice.

If you watch on CL, or FBMP, you can buy one of those in one month, or less...;)

I recently came across your build thread and I am very impressed!!

If you know an overhead door installer in your area, sometimes they have used doors from an insurance job
Around here ive seen a complete set-up with tracs, opener, springs etc for dirt cheap because wrong color or renovation

I tried to buy some used panels from a local door place...he said absolutely not! Guess he likes paying full rate to have those rolloff dumpsters hauled away! :picard:

My local door guy often sells used stuff, basically gets paid to not haul it away
Having the roll off is cheap, its the hauling, dumping, and delivery fees that can kill ya

I’ll give it a try. If I could get the smaller door on, and plastic off the two main doors it would be pretty cozy in there with the propane heater going.

I got this compressor a couple a months ago. Rebuilt the old Sears one to stand vertical and be a portable tank.
    New one is much quieter

Over the weekend I was able to get some done on the pallet building.

I got the tool room dividing wall up

Started moving some of the tools in, and hung a temporary light

I also hung plastic over the doors

I hung a couple metal cabinets I found for free on the side of the road

I also wired in the outlets which are now all live, and I put up the fluorescent lights. I just have to run the wire from the switch to the lights, and the electrical is done. I think my next project will be making a homeade sliding barn door for the side entry door.

Nice scrounge on the free cabinets. Looking great! How much snow did you end up with?

I've been thinking about my pallet building again. I actually thought I came up with a "creative" way to make a sliding door system, only to find out its commonly done. I'm going to use some Unistrut with sliding door rollers that fit nicely inside the track. I can do a single track for the 8'x8' side door, and a double track for the two main 10'x8' doors that overlaps one another. I can make wooden hanging doors out of 2x stock and OSB that I'll paint. The total cost will be a small fraction of what steel overhead doors would cost. Including the tracks, rollers, and lumber I think I can pull it off for around $500, vs at least 3k for 3 overhead doors. So maybe 15% of the cost.

I'm hoping to do the doors in the next few weeks.

Sounds like a great plan. Saving money is always good in my book. Very impressive the way you repurposed the pallets.

5A25D419-8761-4E62-B816-F680A306E3A9.jpeg The roof is on now, i just got 8 free sheets of plywood from an old polaris dealer down the rd. She buys firewood from me. The roof structure was some sort of 4x2 pieces with rubber strap holding the two together so 4 of them layed rt across the red pine beam, rubber pieces layed rt alng tge beam. Worked awesome. Its Kamos Cabin. The floor is 4 pallets sheeted with 2” thick pine tongue and groove flooring from all the homemade doors in my post and beam home that i replaced.

I do plan on doing a video on the door installs.

    :salute:

I wish I could have done the entire build on video.

Too late now. Guess I'll have to build something else.
