The code enforcement officer could have told the neighbor to provide an instrument survey showing the lot line in relation to the pile you were told to move. Typically accessory structures have to be a certain distance off the line due to a Zoning By-Law requirement. I've never heard of a woodpile having to be. Unless this is a Fire Inspector, and he's calling it a fire hazard. Is this a Fire Inspector or a Building/Zoning Inspector? What is the name of your town? The Zoning By-Law is most likely available on the town/city website. I'm curious as I doubt NY is that much different than MA. If you don't want to give the town I understand.
Yeah it's alright. I know he has a job to do and one of them appears to try to keep the peace. Except he's a firewood nut, has a stove, chops his own wood, so he knows what I'm doing and why I'm doing it. He loves the stacks and overall seems like a nice enough guy. He literally said "I can't give you a ticket for wanting to heat your home with wood. Your wood is stacked very neatly, it looks like you clean up everything and keep things tidy." The neighbor is a nut job, perhaps fueled by being home more often now because of covid. Lots of people are not used to that and don't know what to do with themselves. Everything he asked me to do I did and was open about everything. I mean in her written complaint she said what has to be the stupidest thing I've ever heard back around Memorial day..... "He's burning wood in a firepit outside for no apparent reason. It's not even cold outside."
A combustible too close to the house? Ok, I see, it’s NY. Picnic tables, hedges, wood fences, even the siding on the house could be an infraction. I’m well aware of functionaries twisting themselves into knots to justify their job. Love the holzhausens but personally I’d be working on the tallest wood stack anyone’s ever seen as a wall between your neighbors house and yours. Right on the line!!
Even the det. sgt. said he didn't know what he would have done if that jerk had come to his house...and it was 1:40am!! I was thinking of putting these two splits on top of two stacks pointed towards their deck. First one is Norway Maple and the second is spruce.
umn, that’s threatening. The tips are cut off I thought Ct was a whacked out state. Do they carry code books in a wheelbarrow in NY?
stacked wood, covered or not, this year, no at this point, with all the dry weather and now the fires, not sure i'll cover mine at all this year, and its been raining since 2 ish AM this morning. Sure glad to see the rain!
Yeah this guy (and woman) are some real winners in life. Just reinforces a couple of theories of mine. 1. Can't fix stupid. 2. Can't reason with unreasonable people. 3. Taking the high road is the best thing you can do. No need to stoop to their level of stupidity.
