Lovely pics. when we were younger, we talked about living off the grid as they call it now but reality set in and we didn't do it. My hat is off and admiration high of our early settlers who did all the hard work to get us to this point.
Thx Mike... shiplap 10" pine boards, 2 layers (first is diagonal for support) with Typar in between. Guess we could have gone up through the roof, but it was nice to not have to deal with all that goes with it, when we got the roof done. I remember we had rain/snow the next day. It always surprised me how much time and effort it took to get materials up there and then, enough time to get much done on each weekend trip. Can't imagine doing a really remote build... must be tough.
Just found this tonight Stinny. Instead of 9 pages of "likes", I'll just LIKE Beautiful !! Talk about a "peaceful easy feeling"!
PS some pages back you were sort of looking for a LP frig, There's a guy I hear advertised (or talked about) on a Sat morning 8:00-10:00 on *103.3 Augusta/Bangor. Tom Gocze is the host. It's all about whatever he wants to talk about, but a lot of building efficiency and some talk about keeping an automobile alive in Maine IIRC the (appliance) guy is in Brewer. * kinda sure on the station number, but with pre set's on the radio…….. 101.3?? That might actually be it instead
My son really wanted to stain it. I wanted it to gray up. The boards have a flaking rough finish and would be a bear to get enough stain on it. A roller would probably be full of wood flakes in seconds. We'll see how it does.
The ambiance of a little cabin in the woods, especially built on previous foundations of a homestead, would be better suited to the graying up of the boards.
The cabin is looking great Stinny ! You guys have a beautiful spot to appreciate your hard work. Greyed boards will suit it well.
After 9 years, it looks as though my daughter & fam are interested in the cabin... finally. Maybe the covid effect... dunno. Grandkids are loving it. Daughter and SIL have brought them there for 2 weekends, so far... and are talking about making it a reg thing. (A little over 2 hours from their home) My honey and I are headed up next week to mow (hay) around the cabin. Adding to the new activity up there... a young couple (around my daughter's age), and their baby, have bought a 100 acre lot next to us, and are planning to start a homestead there. They're in Kennebunk ME now. My SIL is really fired up about it. The couple sound like good folk so we'll see what happens up on the ridge...
I don't know about you, but I would have been waiting for this turn of events for a long time... Enjoy your upcoming weekends with the family!
sometimes it is an age thing. The kids maybe old enough to really enjoy that lifestyle and there is a short period of time to be a family until they grow up and leave home. Covid has changed a lot of family views I think.
Yep... they've had a lot of things going on, before covid. Now, after being couped up for 3 months, and having done a fair amount of camping ... the cabin is the new "thing"... . I'm good with it, no matter what got them up there. The kids rule, and they love it...
Wonderful build! I would have given my eye teeth to help! First rate cabin and the view really opens up in winter!
