After reading the entire thread I too commend you on a job well done. Seems like you have a good hard working family with a strooooong work ethic. You sir, have a right to be superbly proud of an awesome accomplishment !!
Stinny, WOW. WOW, WOW!!! How the hell did I miss this before? What a great job and what a great place. You should be immensely proud of your accomplishment. I loved the prefabricating of the framing, to maximize the effort once on site. I cannot show the wife this post because she will want me to do one. And I am not sure I have one more in me.
Stinny, Great thread! And pics! If you mentioned it, I didn't see it: Where did you get the round concrete foundation rounds? Dimensions? Thanks,
Being relatively new to this forum, I missed this post when it was started. I wanted to go through and like everything, but it is much easier on my hands to just do it now with a big THUMBS UP! That is a dream to shoot for and you did a great job. I hope you are enjoying it as much as all of us would. Keep posting pics as you see fit, we will never tire of seeing that cabin and view. Enjoy and thank you so much for sharing it with all of us!
How in the world did I miss this thread???? I just started leafing through it, that's an amazing job Stinster!!!!
Thought I'd add some pics of my Honey and I and Giz... on a 3 day winter stay at the cabin a while back. By far, my favorite time to be up there. And, when we get home each time, our appreciation of how it must have been back in the 1800s up there, is x 100... Mountain doesn't look that close. Getting water from the well. Looking down on the old farm with Giz leading the way. We're overdue getting up there this winter again. Glad I got into these pics. Miss being up there. I like to think I could live up there, then I remember I'm old...
great pics Stinny yeah I agree all kids should to learn how to rough it just so then can appreciate what they got... not sure a hundred years ago the had wheelers with tracks for going to da well
Ha... I use every thing I can to do the lifting. The box is the perfect height when I get back to the steps, to pull the full tanks out. Wouldn't surprise me if the old homestead foundation, that the cabin is built over, may have had a dug well in the basement.
FANTASTIC! I think the last time I saw this thread you were just finishing up the floor. I LOVE the cabin. Simple, elegant. I have a couple of questions for you. 1) What kind of wood did you use for your siding and what did you use to seal the joints between boards? 2) Why run the pipe outside so quick with the right angles, rather than just run it straight up and through the roof? I'm just curious.
