Good to hear he is OK. a year is a long time in a dog's life. I'll bet he is wondering why he is excluded from his brothers.

Exciting time isn't it Dave? Nothing quite like that feeling of carving out a perfect wooded area where you're going to build a home. Enjoy all of it...

Naw, no doubt you will train your hounds to mush and the little terrier will be the lead dog :)

Big pile of saw logs, pine and spruce to be hauled to my buddies place. I'll help him with the milling and we will split the lumber.

So my buddy just got a Farmi winch for his Kubota and was dying to try it out, he brought it over and we skidded some firewood logs over to the side of the clearing and a few more saw logs up to the top, we worked for a few hours, wicked fun...now I KNOW I'm gonna NEED a tractor:D The excavating contractor is supposed to start later next week, I'm sure he coulda done what we did in a fraction of the time with his big excavating equipment...

Looking great! I went to school up that way (Castine, Maine), gorgeous area up there. Looks like you picked out a killer spot. Sure would be awesome to put in an OWB! With all that woods around you it wouldnt take much to keep it fed and you could size it to potentially heat a separate garage/shop if you're ever planning on adding buildings.

What are your plans for your 500' driveway? Gravel I assume? I would strongly recommend reclaimed asphalt...gives the "look" and "feel" of gravel but packs down into a much more stable and solid base, and its a fraction of the cost of actual pavement. Asphalt up around the house/garage and reclaimed asphalt connecting that to the road is a great way to go!

    Castine...MMA?...good school.

We will see how deep I get into the homesteading/farming thing...if I end up with a barn and outbuilding that need heat then maybe so.

Yeah just gravel for now we will just see what we get, we are in "just get it built mode" right now...

Dave, I heard that the property that abuts yours, is being acquired as conservation land, associated with a Blue Hill trust. I think that would be good news!

    BHHT to acquire Meadowbrook Forest

Yes, this is excellent news! I was aware that this sale was in the works but hadn't heard that it had gone through, and I didn't know that the forest was named Meadowbrook Forest!

Want to hear something cool?!...the name of the dairy farm that I grew up on in Gettysburg...Meadowbrook Farm.

Great vids & pics. That boulder looked like a pita! The ledge may cost now, but hopefully lessen any frost heaving. Will they need to blast or drill?

Nice videos Dave. Those equipment operators look very proficient.
That’s a lot of earth moving on the driveway too.
Is the topsoil substrate all sand?
