Some impressive after shots redneckdan ... what a huge mess. Be nice if you had a little rain to knock down the chances of those hotspots getting going again. #2286 really shows how close things were to going really bad. Whew.
when I lived on Long Island we had a fire in the pine barrens, came up to my property line of a 1/4 acre lot. scared is putting it mildly, I was spraying the house with a garden hose, like that was doing any good.
Incredible story. Living against the Talladega National Forest myself I get puckered during their "controlled" burns. If things ever get out of their control there will be a slew of their trees being dropped to save my place I donate to my local VFD annually and keep the hydrant down near the road clear all year, even cut a trail trough the woods for hoses.
Yikes!!! Sorry for your loss, at least your safe and you still have a roof over your head. We have had a few wildfires here ourselves already, way too early in the season for that kind of stuff. Gearing up for a hot active wildfire season here in Montana. Very little snow pack this year makes for an interesting summer if we don't have a rainy Spring, So far not much moisture, should be interesting.
Interesting is not the word I would use. We fortunately have had a few days of rain...we needed it badly. Rainy and cold and windy. 39 tomorrow night.
