I agree. I think it should have been thinned heavily, maybe left 15-20 trees at the most. Grass would have grown great then.
He said they want a garden, I suggested using part of the front yard, best space and sunlight. Said they would probably put it in the backyard...... Maybe a container garden would work back there... More trees and shade back there. We are starting phase II next week, back and side yards will be cut. Not as many trees, but closer to the house. I'll get
This is the last, last load of the front yard. Hickory and red oak. Loaded some short logs we had set aside to finish the load.
Biggest we cut on the front yard was 31" across stump, probably 26-27" DBH. Sure don't want it to roll on my foot.....
The neighbor with the mill stopped by Monday morning, he had gotten all but 4 logs of the 1st 2 loads sawn and was ready for the rest of the pine. We moved them to his place that afternoon. The rest of the 16' and 2 - 12'ers A load of 12' Last 7 logs MizMiz Carol got some seat time on the last load We laid them out by the mill. He didn't want me to stack them like before. Total of 4 1/2 trailer loads of pine saw logs from the front yard.
That was going to be my comment, you beat me to it. Curious what you will do with the pines, Jeff. Nobody around here burns pine. I could get all I wanted indefinitely! I am going to try some this winter out of curiosity. EDIT: Never mind, I see that you are going to mill them.
The neighbor with the mill has a cabin in the edge of NC. He said it started out as a 16x30, he keeps adding on. It's 2000 square ft now......using the lumber for more construction..
