*air pellet gun The spring units are loud. Another way to say it is that if you shoot at a squirrel, you will know if you got a hit by the sound of the impact. Squirrel flesh has much less report than does tree bark, in my experience.
I’ve had springers, lever pump, and pcp guns. All of them are very loud compared to my suppressed 22lr. Squirrels have VERY tough hide that doesn’t like to blow apart like a rabbit. That holds a lot of the sound in. However, I can clearly hear the whomp of the impact.
If I was going to buy one it would be the dead air mask. I shot a 22-250 with their nomad 30 and it was amazing. No ear pressure at all. They know how to build a good can.
This is my first one, so I don't really even know. Light plinking and dispatching rabbits/coons/opposums after dark on a bolt gun, maybe 10/22. I'll take small over whisper quiet, and it has to be easy to clean.
I'm not the type to recco a specific generally. Selection by attributes is the way to go. Knowing what you want from it is key. I've not ever heard of any 'bad' suppressors and people would complain if there were some. I tend to stress about maintenance because I've seen what being lax can do with dirty rimfire ammo. I don't think it's as big a deal now with all the different potions that are available for dissolving the grunge. I thought I was up top when I started wet tumbling with SS media. The potions and sonic cleaning are the new standard. Materials composition of a suppressor does come into play, in regards. Have seen people say they have sonic cleaned aluminum parts when it's generally recognized that it's a bad idea. If I were you I'd pick out three or so that I 'like' and then disect pros/cons from there until a winner emerges. Also know...you can have more than one!
I usually do that on everything, but I'm having a hard time finding the will to crawl into that rabbit hole on this one. I just haven't had the time lately, but i should be getting my evenings and weekends back starting next week.
mine goes together like the dead air, just a stack of baffles that seal together in a tube. Super easy to clean. I just dumped them out a couple day ago and tapped the crud off. This was after a few hundred rounds. There was a very thin layer that was still on the baffles, but the rest was dust and fell right out.
I did some research last night and it looks like I have it narrowed down to the dead air and a OCL titanium. I'm going to swing by a gun shop that sells a lot of cans tomorrow and see what they have and recommend.
I eye balled an of Otter Creek for a 22lr, I too have heard good things about them. It was a bit lighter than the Sparrow but it was about $200 more & coyote tan. The coyote tan is what turned me off, it was going to be a month or so before they could get a black one in so I stayed with the Sparrow.
I had to be special when I got the Sparrow. Officially it is a 'White' Sparrow with only bead bast finish. At the time I was planning to send off a Savage BTVSS 22wmr to be threaded so I could be the cool kid with a can on his 22mag. You know...matching stainless suppressor...fashion! haha
Keep in mind, a shop will often recommend a higher markup item. Not all, but a lot. I believe OCL has a no bs warranty, and they answer the phone.
Ya gotta love to see it. How some of them think they are still gonna get $500+ out of these is beyond me. Timed, keyholed baffles for $180.
