I've built maby a ported muffler, in fact three of them this past week. Depending on what all is done to the saw, sometimes I just add some holes to the baffle. Sometimes remove it altogether....

Miller has lots of good points, he knows what he's doing.

I'm about to experiment with a copper heat sink "gasket" between the muffler and cylinder, I've seen them before but never really tried one. I'm going to make a bunch up. It's claimed they help draw some heat away from the exhaust outlet, and we all know that's where a lot of damage occurs in chainsaws. Can't hurt to try them, and the copper will be a better gasket anyway.....

These are screenshots of a heat sink that I saw listed on ebay. I'm not claiming to be the maker of these specific ones, these are an example of what I am talking about.

    Nice pipes!

Me likey! subscribed. I have a sheet of copper that might just need to be saved.

I just pulled this from an RC forum :
"Having raced two cycle go carts [many years ago] temp was a key element in tuning. From what i read above, if i keep the WOT temp around 280 degrees F and 300F [on the bench] I should be safe. " It sounds like he was talking about large air cooled 2 cycles. I bet it would apply to saws. Just me - I would think that oil would perform better at a 240-260 range. I'm curious how much heat it would pull from the cylinder. That a pretty decent contact area size.

With all of these ported saws around running higher RPM's on a stock case and same flywheel pushing air I wounder where the temps go. Modified mufflers help a huge amount with pulling off heat due to flow but how much. You may have to start a new thread with all of you findings.

I like that you welded your pipes from the inside. Makes for a cleaner look.
