Opinion on Forest king 30 Ton Log Splitter.

Well mine starts hard under about 10*, the motor will try to fire but the oil is so thick I just can't get the poor thing spinning fast enough to get the flywheel inertia-ed up, 1 pop n that's it

 

The 30+ yr old Briggs 5hp on the didier splitter my buddy has, starts up pretty decent, despite it being a Briggs, which are not known to be easy starting motors. They are even worse in cold weather.

Compounding that is the recoil on that particular brigs that only engages is pawl like once every 6 pulls, unless your lucky.

We've never had to break out the starter fluid yet...

 

That reminds me does anyone want to buy an earthquake 3214 saw for $100?

 

For those in the market for a splitter and don't have a Menards around then I just got the TSC flier yesterday and mine has their Countyline 22T for $849, and it says includes free assembly and hydraulic fluid (claimed $90 value so could be cheaper than Menards technically). Also the flier says Nov 25-29 so you might be able to pick it up without fighting the crowds Friday morning... to be honest I am seriously thinking about that unit. 22T is enough for most things and I don't think the electric start is a big deal either. Just wonder how the engines compare...

Last year was the 27T, I saved the flier for a while but must have got rid of it. There was some confusion whether it was Forest King or DHT, on the other forum some people did report back it was DHT. Though this 30T Forest King seems to be built pretty much the same. I wonder if its the same unit and they just fudged the numbers up a bit? Last year was also $799 but I think there was an extra $100 mail in rebate on top of that.

 

Here in Georgia, the TSC 22 ton Countyline is $899.99. I don't need a splitter but that's not a blow your doors off deal in my opinion.

My local Menard's is listing the 22 ton as what is on sale but unlike what I have seen posted they are also running it 3 days rather than just this morning.

Well based on previous threads that they didn't come close to selling out last year, I went over later in the morning. I was up until 2AM and then didn't sleep well, and have to work the nightshift tonight so getting up early wasn't a good option. And wouldn't you know when I walked up to the guy they had just sold the last one. Hour and a half drive for nothing. Might consider that TSC countyline if they have any left tomorrow.

Already explained. The 30T is on their website... I linked it earlier in the thread. It is not listed under wood splitters & chippers because I guess it is not part of their normal inventory, just for black friday. It is under home and decor / DAT category. Or just type in the sku # off the add right into the search box and the 30T comes right up. But it doesn't matter now, deals over.

Naw, it starts as good as Briggs do in the cold. Funny story from my buddies dad, that retired as an engineer from Briggs and Stratton. He said Briggs bought out Tecumseh because Tecumseh motors were so much easier starting in cold weather, which is why the Tecumseh snow king was , well the king of snow blower motors for many, many years.

You've been there done that with the dumb starter pawls on a Briggs, I can see.

Sometimes a split ends up being used as a coercing tool on the starter.

That darn Briggs is close to as old as I am.
